6 Week Growth Spurt Symptoms...

List your symptoms here of your little one (current/pass the age), I would like to see the wide range of what is normal.

Right now my little guy is:
-Hungry every 2 hours.
-Nurses both sides and takes an additional 3oz and is now still hungry so I have done up to 4oz.
-Very fussy and crying even when fed/changed/burped/played with
-Fights trying to go to sleep even though he is tired, even when he suddenly gets woken up by his reflex or something and I try to put him back to sleep he will fight it.
-Does not want his pacifier as much anymore.
-Does NOT want to be put down or in anything, arms only.

It sucks. Especially when your husband is 6 hours away and gone for a week for work, and especially when nobody else can watch him for me for a few hours because the only people I know right now are sick and they won't watch him in fear of getting him sick (I agree with that). So here I am, alone for this spurt.. lol.

Are you supplementing with breast milk or formula? You really shouldn't be supplementing (unless you have a medical reason) because growth spurts are what tell your boobs to make more milk for the growing kid.

I know this, I have to supplement because he loses weight when exclusively nursing.

That is exactly how DS was during that spurt. It lasted a little over a week for us then he went back to his happy self.

I'm sorry you don't have help, that spurt definitely sucks!

  • My DS is 5.2 weeks old and he has all the growth spurt symptoms ur LO has, I guess he's starting his growth spurt early. I also supplement with formula  but only at night when he's going to bed and he's still always hungry every 2 hours.

Yeah, he just turned 6 weeks yesterday and the symptoms have been progressing for four days now.

  • I'm right there with you!  LO turned 6 weeks last Saturday and it hit Monday.  So tomorrow will be Day 5 of the spurt.  Started with feeding almost every hour around the clock and all things you mention above.  Now she is sleeping better through the night but still feeding every 2 hours during the day and some of the sessions last an hour of switching back and forth until she is satisfied.  I'm exhausted and feel bad thinking "don't tell me you have to eat again?" as obviously she needs it.   On occasion when my boobs can take it any more my husband gives her a bottle while I pump as it's a faster session for me ultimately.

I can't wait for this spurt to commence!  Hope yours does too.

  • 6 was the worst for us. I suggest you get a spurt station granola bars, water, tv remote, phone and charger, pit your feet up and just let Lo live on your boob. Boobs are never empty. He will doze on and off in your lap, buy he will constantly eat. I also pit pillows on the floor all around us in case I fell asleep too which I did also sidelyong nursing helped soooo much during this time too. It'll be all done in a couple daus.

  • When my little guy was that fussy and would not calm down from crying, I put him in Baby Bjorn and took a nice extra long walk. He fell asleep within first 5 minutes and was quiet for the remainder of 1 hr walk. It will pass soon. Don't despair.
