Trouble TTC

Back from my HSG - update

Just got home from my HSG. They did have me roll onto each side because initially the dye wasn't spilling. After rolling around one tube was clearly open - the other tube they said they weren't sure about. They said it could be that my tube was just contracting shut due to the discomfort my body was feeling, or it could be not draining because the other tube was so wide open it was sucking all of the dye (really??). A possible next step would be for me to repeat the procedure sedated by IV so that there is no reason for my tube to clench itself shut. My actual RE is supposed to call me later today to discuss my results.

As of now I am essentially super bummed and have no idea what will come next. The one bright side was that they let DH be in the room and hold my hand.

Thanks for listening, if anyone has any HSG questions I'm fresh off the table : /

  • That is exactly what happened to me! I was in so much pain it took 30 minutes. They told me I was having a spasm :. When the doc said that my RE would probably want to repeat it I nearly freaked out! I did end up repeating it I do have a blockage on the left partial on the right so straight to IVF for us! I wish you luck on your next steps.

2/13 - DH's SA was normal and OBGYN did BW on me to check ovulation - all was normal.  Went to RE in March 2013 at BIVF.  All BW was normal, estrogen a little high.  4/13 - HSG #1 - very painful and had spasms so suggested repeat of procedure.  5/13 - HSG #2 done by RE and both tubes are blocked :(  Per RE's recommendation - IVF cycle #1 in June 2013 w/ Follistim, Ganirelix, Ovidrel and Crinone.  BFP on 7/9/13 Beta #1 at 330.  Beta #2 at 895.  7/25/13 1st U/S at 6wk2d- it's TWINS!  Baby A 115bpm and Baby B 101bpm.
  • Oh I'm sorry it didn't go so well! I bet that was rough. So glad they let your hubby be there with you! FX that everything is actually fine.

  • I had my HSG on Monday and your experience sounds exactly like mine. My right tube drained right away and they weren't sure about the left one (there was some dye around it but it could have been from the other side?) I was very tense during the whole procedure and my legs were shaking the whole time. I wouldn't be surprised if my fallopian tube was doing the same thing! We'll have to see what my RE says. That was nice they let DH in with you.

    TTC since 10/11
Me, 26- Normal. DH, 28- Low morphology (2-4%)
    August 2013 100mg Clomid+TI=BFP!

  • Update: RE called and made me feel so much better!  He said there is possibility my left tube is open and he is asking the radiologist to help clarify what was seen. He also said the dye made it waaaay down my left tube and redoing the procedure would not be helpful for that type of blockage. Instead what we will do is start Clomid today and I will have an ultrasound next Sunday to see 1. If I respond and 2. Which side ovary looks like it will ovulate. Then we'll do the trigger shot and hope for the best. I'm so glad to be continuing forward on this path rather than being stalled. Thanks for your support everyone!
