Let me start by saying I've already taken DD to the doctor twice and have another appointment scheduled next week.
DD is going to be 6 months old this week. I breastfeed and she eats 3 bottles of freshly pumped milk at daycare, we have not started solids yet. She started daycare almost 3 weeks ago. After being in daycare M,T,W, she started having green mucousy diarrhea on Thursday, she had a slight temperature (100.1) but no real fever. Her pediatrician checked her out and told us to come back if she did not improve in 5-7days. She got better over the weekend, went back to daycare Monday, then had diarrhea again starting on Tuesday. We saw the doctor Thursday, her stool tested positive for blood (microscopic, nothing you can see in her diaper), The stool culture came back negative.
So it seems it could be a food allergy. Did any of your LO developed food allergies at 6months old? I cut out dairy from my diet that day, she got better over the next few days and by Sunday night her poops were completely normal. Monday morning she goes back to daycare, I made sure to give her milk I pumped after cutting out diary, but by noon she had green mucousy diarrhea again. Has had it all week. I'm going to cut out soy and eggs from my diet next to see if it helps.
However, given the pattern of her always getting better on the weekends when she's home with me and sick again all week at daycare, I strongly suspect it is not a food allergy but something she's exposed to at daycare that she isn't at home. Did anyone experience anything similar with their LO? Daycare only feeds her the breastmilk bottles I bring them, so I've been sterilizing her bottles and the breastpump parts after each use all week but no change so far. So maybe it is something that I'm eating at work but not at home that makes it into my pumped milk. The only thing I can think of is coffee. Has anyone experienced their LO getting diarrhea because you were drinking coffee? Anything else you can think of that would be causing this? Thanks
Re: Green mucousy diarrhea going on 2 weeks
Not sure, sounds like a food allergy to me. Nothing I can tell you that your pedi can't/shouldn't be able to help with.
I can say though that I am sorry your LO feels cruddy and that this is probably affecting you. FX it gets resolved soon.
