Pacifiers, Bottles?

FTM, twins, possibly silly question, I'm sorry lol

So I got a lot of cute Pacifiers, I also have bottles, obviously. lol

I was wondering what was the best way to clean them?

I was looking online and saw some sterilizers and was wondering if they were worth it? Even though once I take them out they won't be sterile anymore, but they'll be cleaner... Right?

I know I could just boil them but some of the pacifiers say that it'll change the color or change blah blah and idk if that's going to do something to the pacifier that can pass to my LOs.

The bottles, I'm assuming, I can just wash them like normal right? Like there's no specific way to wash them the first time?

I'm just trying to make sure everything's clean before my LOs arrive. If this question has been posted before I'm sorry! I'm just a nervous, slightly germaphobic, FTM.

Re: Pacifiers, Bottles?

  • I did NOT read every word! I'm sorry. Haha but I just boiled them w the pump parts and bottle nipples once a week and if they fell to the ground I had a pack of those paci wipes.

ETA: Medela has those sterilizer bags that you can use like 30 times each. You can use those too. Pop it in the micro!

  • FYI, pacifiers are only good for about 2 week and pick up germs FAST! I read an artical the other week that stated that a pacifier should be replaced after two weeks and once the baby drop it out of its mouth or you take it out you should sterilize it before you give it back to baby. But take all this with a grain of salt, as I'm a FTM and only got this from one artical, I have no personal experience but since you said you were a germaphobe I thought of it.

  • I boiled everything. Some people do the dishwasher. Soap and water would probably be fine too.

This sounds like a ploy to get people to buy paci's every 2 weeks. Yes, they fall out and get germs, but babies have been using them forever and some for years at a time, I doubt most people buy new ones every 2 weeks. Just my opinion.

  • I don't have a dishwasher lol but thanks for your answers! I'm just a worry wart. I have the similac plastic bottles with the little "bubble destroyer" thingy. My mom said just the regular wash with warm water and soap should be just fine, she even went on to say "poor people in Mexico don't have anything and we were just fine!" Lol she's silly.

I got one of those bottles as a sample in the mail the other day! They are cool looking. Took DH and I a minute to figure out what that little dangly thing was!

  • With ds i boiled everything at the beginning and then washed in the dishwasher in the little basket on the sterilize setting.

Right! I got a bunch at my baby shower and I was so fascinated! I love how chunky they look lol and they seem a lot easier to clean. Lol plus my friend has some and it looks like her formula mixes a lot faster in them.
  • We sterilized everything just the very first time before using, and by putting them in boiling water.

I would not personally recommend ever using the dishwasher as bottles and later sippys all leaked afterwards.

The whole thing with replacing pacifiers every 2 wks is kinda nuts. I get cleaning them after they fall on the floor.. Though as your LO grows you will become more and more lenient lol

    Good luck!

We used the same set the whole four months he used pacifiers. They were constantly dropped on the floor and sterilized once ever. He's got an awesome immune system.

ETA Ask the pedi what they think is best based on your babies. We boiled the first batch of bottles and nipples before the first use but replacements were always just given a quick hand washing.

  • We have a dishwasher basket for nipples-n-thangs. I wash her paci's and rotate them every night, along with nipples (when she was on a bottle), baby spoons, straws and sippies!

For dd when I pumped the first 3 weeks while we figured everything out. I boiled everything once then cleaned with warm soapy water. It was recommended not to boil plastic bottles over and over. I would wash them then through them in sanitizing bag and throw the binky paci in too.

  • I washed everything like normal dishes daily, and then they all went through the dish washer once a week.
