Eczema

Who here deals with eczema on the LO? What's your regemine?

Ry has always had it, one spot behind each knee during the 3 to 9 mos stage, then she had a small circle patch of it on her, ehem, lady bits... and over the last six months it has spread a little more on her little bum cheeks, two spots her face, one on each cheek. Now the two dots have returned on the backs of her knees.

We use Aveeno Eczema after baths all over, plus on the red areas we do hydrocortisone. The spots that are in her diaper area, we use Aquaphor as a barrier. If we use the hydrocortisone regularly, the red patches go away, but it has to be consistent or else it comes back.

What else can I do?? Has anyone noticed a difference with diet changes? Anyone seen a dermatologist?

FYI: We have used Huggies Pure and Natural diapers since birth and people have suggested using those but we already do.

Thanks momma's. :]

We do pretty much everything that you're doing. nbsp; The only other thing that I have found that helps is Aveeno bath wash.

Whoops, we do that too. Ho hum....

  • I took L to the dermatologist for an unrelated issue. She had an eczema spot that needed to be cleared up before we treated her for something else. He gave us a sample of a prescription. Maybe go ahead and see the derm if its been going on so long with out a resolution.

  • I'd probably go to the derm.  L has eczema but hydrocortisone clears it and we can maintain with the Aveeno lotion.

Here's what my friend told me (both her daughters have it). We follow everything except the soaking baths part (since E's is on his face- haha).

"After trying over 20 combinations of cream this is what works for us. Each girl receives at least one soaking bath per day. The goal is to keep the skin wet for about 15 to 20 minutes. The water needs to be lukewarm. If it is very warm, it makes them scratch.

Once it is done, you get them out and pat them dry quickly. Their skin is still moist. And then cover them with moisturizing cream. I've had two recs for cream. -- Vanicream (not the lite version) or CeraVe. The whole pat and lotion process should take less than 3 minutes. The goal is to trap the moisture into the skin. Then I use 1% hydrocortisone as needed (not often now)."

    Hope that helps!

Hope that helps! I also just ordered sunscreen for super-sensitive skin (Vanicream SPF 60). I'll let you know how that works for us. The pedi also recommended Blue Lizard brand.

We were able to find the Vanicream lotion at CVS but had to order the Vanicream sunscreen on diapers.com. Amazon has it but it's really expensive- it was somewhere between $15-20 on diapers.com.
