My dr. wont even do them until at least 39 weeks but I was curious if you ladies would opt for it or wait... And if you want it done, whats the earliest you would let your dr. do it?
My doctor also does them at 39 weeks and if it was a possibility I would probably consider having it done just because being THIS pregnant with a toddler is an adventure for sure. But, I would not even consider it before 39 weeks just because baby may not be ready to come yet. Unfortunately my LO is still breech so c-section for me at this point

aww sry about LO being Breech... Praying and hoping they turn!
I honestly don't know what my dr does be I haven't even asked. I'm going to let her do her thing (the baby that is) until its time. If we come to the point where we're talking induction I might request it then to see if we can get it going without pitocin.
My ob will consider an induction at 39 weeks IF everything looks ready to go. Basically she says if baby is head down and engaged and ready to go AND my cervix is ripe then she would be comfy inducing for "calendar convenience". If EVERYTHING is NOT ready I am on my own.
Hubby and I are starting the "natural eviction process" later next week...
Chasing an extremely active high needs three year old is taking a toll on this pregnant mama!
My vagina is hands-off to my midwife and the doctors in the practice. No membrane sweeping, no internals. They're agreeable to that because it's their policy anyway. I had the swab for the GBS test already (which isn't really internal, it's just a little swab that barely goes in an inch), and they will not be visiting the south side of town again until I'm in labor.
If I should happen to hit 42 weeks with no baby, I will then consider induction, but I'm not sure if membrane sweep is on the list of things I would consider.
I asked last time and my OB said it doesn't usually do anything but if I wanted to she would do it. At 39 weeks I was 4CM so I had her do it. I still had to be induced at 40w3d so this time I'll skip it.
It hurt and I spotted for a day and a half after. Not worth it.

Really? At 36 weeks?
No. We will start the "natural eviction process" at 38 weeks. Anything sooner is just plain silly! I might be uncomfy but this baby needs to be "sturdy" and have a good chance if I can give it. We are not dumb and not wanting to rush things.
ETA : please don't side eye me. I kinda know what I am doing!

sorry, i can't help but side eye anyone who doesn't want to let baby finish baking. I can see if you're 40 weeks and facing an induction. But anything before 40 is selfish.
I'm alone 12+ hours a day with an active 3 year old. I know it's hard but that just comes with the territory. Find other ways to deal (I hired a sitter to help take care of DS).

Just because we schedule sexy time doesn't mean we are rushing things. Hubby has been avoiding it from about 30 weeks on because according to him it induces labor. He also won't rub my feet for the same reason. If he is more comfortable doing it once we hit 38 weeks I am going to take what I can get!
And my ob is okay with scheduling an induction for "calendar convenience" at 39 weeks but that doesn't mean I am. Sure it would be nice to avoid chaos with my son and early water breaking...but it doesn't mean I necessarily want to go in exactly at 39 weeks and have a baby.

It didn't sound like you wanted to have sex because you miss having sex, it sounded like you are going to have sex in order to bring on labor. I think that's where the side eyes come from.

Oh how I hate the internet for relaying information. And I blame pregnancy brain for omitting the "duh factor" I miss sex....and I really want a foot rub!
I apologize for the misunderstanding and the "dumb me" momentary lapse in communication. I want a fully cooked baby. I swear!
I see an MFM and they don't consider that procedure worth while. Although when they did the gbs swab it felt like a freaking membrane sweep. They also don't like their patients to go past 39 wks as a general rule. They did say that if my cervix is ft Knox at 39 wk
Induction they will let me wait a few days more. That is, as long a LO continues to grow, which isn't happening as much as we'd all like. Hopefully he just comes on his own prior, like DS1.
I'm trying for a VBAC this time and we have to reconsider if I go to 41w. So, I'd consider it once I'm past due to avoid scheduling another c/s, considering that's my only other option [I won't be induced].
I haven't asked my docs about their position on it yet.
However, if they suggested it at any point from 37 weeks on, I would do it. I'm looking at an induction for medical reasons at 39 weeks. If the prostaglandin release from a sweep can possibly help me go into labor on my own before then, I'm in.
I wouldn't let my dr do anything that's going to bring on early labor though unless there was some sort of medical necessity or problem going on with the baby. IMO 39 weeks is still early and unless I go into labor naturally I wouldn't want to be induced or do anything on purpose to start labor. When baby's ready to come she'll let me know
If I end up going past my due date then I'd consider induction, but only if I'm so far past that it's getting to be a problem for baby since I haven't had any major problems myself during the pregnancy.
I had to go to L&D yesterday and had this discussion with two different OBs. Because I'm 40 I'm at a higher risk of having a stillbirth if I wait until 40 weeks, and while I'd prefer not to have any kind of interventions, if it produces a healthy baby then I'll consider it.

its when your OB or midwife sweeps a finger around your cervix and separates your amniotic sac from your cervix. It's supposed to release prostaglandins which naturally stimulates labor.

This. I had it done twice when I was pregnant with DS. It didn't do a thing and it hurt like hell. I don't want it at all this time.
