Trying to Get Pregnant

Sub septate uterus

I just recently found out that I have a sub septate uterus. Dr. Google hasn't really been helpful with whether or not it would be more challenging to get pregnant, and my doctor said that it may or may not be more challenging. I don't get to see my gyno until June about this.

Has anyone else been diagnosed with a sub septate uterus? How did you deal with it? Those pictures on google are scary.

Re: Sub septate uterus

  • I was thought to have a septate or bicornuate uterus but it turns out it is arcuate. I'd ask your doctor about removing the septum. It may or may not limit you in getting pregnant but usually the concern is more about the baby implanting in the wrong place if it is not removed first. From what I have read it seems to be a relatively tolerable surgery and once it is corrected it should no longer be a problem. Good luck trying to figure all this out. It took several months for them to finally correctly diagnose me, and I hope you get answers much faster!

Thanks so much! The more pictures I look at, the more upsetting this gets (except not all the pictures are just of subseptate). I haven't seen the ultrasound where they said they found it, and my gyno will probably want to do an ultra sound to see for herself, I don't know. I will probably want it removed.

Sorry to hear you're in limbo right now. I was wrongly diagnosed by my OB with a bicornuate uterus based off of an ultrasound in January. When I met with my RE for the first time in April, he told me that it wasn't possible to get a complete diagnosis from just an u/s. Arcuate, septate and bicornuate utes were all being considered. I had an HSG done and then an MRI, and my diagnosis is an arcuate.

Yes I forgot to mention this part. I highly suggest asking for an MRI to be 100% sure which type you may have. Only the septate requires surgery (not the other two types) so you wouldn't want to head that direct unless they are sure there is a septum to be removed.
