Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Vertical bump on DD's forehead

My 4 month old DD has a Vertical bump on forehead, I was doing a research online about similar posts, I've came across one from Leila's mommy but it is no longer active and I could not post in there, so I opened a new post.

Please if anybody had similar bump on their babies forehead please reply and let me know if it went away over time. I am really worried

My DD has exact same bump like Leila's mommy's post below.

Thanks a lot

Re: Vertical bump on DD's forehead

  • Not to worry you, but a friend of mine had this same problem with her son.  He had a small bump right above his nose.  She mentioned it in passing during a Dr's appt around a year.  The Dr pressed on it gently and noticed it was soft.  They got it looked at and it turns out it was a skull fusion issue.  He needed surgery because it could turn very harmful.

The one thing I noticed in the old thread you posted, one person said their baby's bump started to disappear.  With my friend, her son's started to disappear too.  It was eroding the bone in his face at the same time which they wouldn't have seen from the outside.  So if she hadn't said anything to the Dr, they may have never known.

Good luck.  I hope it's nothing, but it can't hurt to mention it to them.

  • Our nephew has it. He was born at 28-ish weeks, but I'm not sure that has anything to do with it. I believe DH said it's an overlapping of cranial bones, which often resolves on its own. Our nephew is 19 mos and it's still there, but less prominent.

Why don't you just take DD to the pedi to make sure everything is ok?

    Yeah, I second this.

  • I did and they said nothing to worry about and that the ridge will go away with time, that is why I wanted to check with moms that got the same diagnosis see what happened later on , if the ridge went away and when and did it cause any complications down the road.

    Thanks
