daycare attire

so, today is supposed to be around 80..nice!

i wasn't sure what to send dd to daycare in, so i just went with a onsie and leggings....but i was considering shorts, or a skirt or dress or a creeper/jumper thing...but then i remembered something a co-worker said...she said she never sends her kids to daycare in shorts....because of crawling around on the floor and such

just wondering anyone else's take on that? i never thought about it...and while dd isn't crawling yet, she seems to really want to...but then again, the area that she is kept in is no shoes allowed (unless your kid is walking)...i have a lot of cute dresses for her that i want to put her in.....do you stick to just play clothes for dc? pants? shorts? sleepers?

Re: daycare attire

  • I tend to consider how cool they keep the room ... is the AC on, etc? Since the babies under 12 months don't go outside at our center, the weather is really not as important as the temperature in the baby's room.  Look at what the teachers are wearing at the beginning of the day and the end of the day, and that will tell you what your baby is experiencing ...  (teachers wearing sweatshirts in the morning, t-shirts in the afternoon, type of thing).  I tend to put my kiddo in layers and request that they remove one of the layers when it warms up later in the morning.

I also put my babies in comfy clothes that are nice to sleep in - so no jeans, etc. I keep the really cute outfits, dresses, or the more complicated outfits (harder to change diapers in) for weekends, special occassions - not daily daycare.

I've never really worried about outfits and the cleanliness of the room.

All that being said, put your baby in dresses now before she is crawling. Girls can't crawl in dresses too well and they will piss her off when they hinder her movement, so you won't want to do that then.

  • at the daycare i worked at kids came in dresses and shorts on hot days. they SHOULD (not saying all do) have cleaning expectations making crawling not an issue in shorts. if you aren't concerned about her wearing shorts around your house i wound't be concerned at daycare. i wouldn't send her in the cute pretty dresses though, don't send anything to daycare you wouldn't want ruined by other kids or an accident. play clothes or the ones you wouldn't mind being ruined are best, and when you get home change her into the pretties.

I tend to send him in his cuter (non-sleeper) clothes.  If DS was a girl though, I would send him in dresses every day!  Big Smile

  • I send her in sleepers or onesie/pants combos.  I want to make it easy for them to change her so nothing complicated.

I'm wondering about shorts too because they do keep the room cool.  I might just on super hot days and always have pants there as an extra layer.

Same here.  I'll prob send him in shorts in the summer and let them know to change him into pants if it feels to cool in the room.

  • dh always drops off and picks up, and he's always warm, so he's not a good judge of room temp...however i am on drop off/pick up duty today...this morning it was comfortable, but not sure what it's like during the day

occasionally they'll take the infants out in the stroller, or bring the exersaucers outside for them....daycare is pretty much the only place she goes, so i have no need to save cute outfits or dresses for other outings....

they keep the place pretty clean, and like i said, no shoes in the infant room, so i'm ok with her crawling around on the floor (when she crawls)...so i should probably start sending her in the dresses...i have on 0-3 stuff that was never worn bc i was saving it for going somewhere or something, and never got a chance...

i was just curious bc my co-worker said about not sending in shorts, and the thought never occurred to me

DS's every day attire is a cotton long sleeved or a short sleeved onesie, cotton pants or shorts, socks or no socks depending on the temperature out and a bib. Plus my d/c lady has extra pants/shorts/onesies/socks/bibs that I've given her....so if he has a blow out, major spit up or just needs something warmer/colder she can change him. She also has a spring jacket with a hoodie and a bucket hat for sun for when they go outside.

I want him to be comfy all day...I save jeans and the cute clothes for other occasions. Plus I want clothes that are easy to get on and off for my d/c lady since she has three other little girls she watches too.

    Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

    Anniversary

  • DD1 (19 months) goes to daycare in "play clothes," and now that it's getting shorts.  I do NOT send her in nice clothes.

DD2 goes to the at home sitter in whatever.

  • It's just started to get warm here (MN), so I send DS in a romper with pants and a sweatshirt on over it in the morning.  DS goes to an in home daycare, and they go outside in the morning and afternoon, so it's nice to have him in pants and hoodie in the morning, but as the day gets warmer, they just take off the pants and sweatshirt and he's in his romper.  I never send him in nice clothes.  I've never had a blow out with him, but when he's with me he's in CD.  At daycare or with grandparents he's in disposables, and he has about one blow-out a week in those.
