Trouble TTC

Low Hcg level... any help would be appreciated

Hi all!! I am new to this site. Looked at it for a long time, but just recently signed up : ) Would appreciate any personal experiences or any input for those of you that are familiar with the levels.. The first day of my last menstrual period was April 17th, which means I should have got my period Tuesday the 13. This past weekend I took 3 tests between Sat/Sun and they were all faintly positive (I figured how early it was). I called my Dr Monday and he had me get a HCG drawn. It came back 24. He said it was low but just could be that it was very early. He had me go yesterday (Wed) again for Hcg and Progesterone. Hcg came back 25, and Progesterone was 6.7. Pregnant for my lab is over 25. He was concerned it only went up 1 point and said progesterone was on the low side. He is having me repeat next week but told me in order to prepare me that he would not be surprised if I bled before then. I am really dissappointed. DH and I had a hard time last night. Prayed for a healthy baby, so our faith is in God now. I went off BC in October. I missed my period that month, but then got one every month until now. It was mostly Q28days, but last month was 30. Today is day 30 for me. Do you think there is any hope, or should I just rule that out of my mind? Do you think that this cycle is just a long one and that I could really be pregnant and it was just too early to draw levels? Little confused. We have a 2 year old that we conceived without an issue. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance : )

Re: Low Hcg level... any help would be appreciated

  • Well, this site is more geared toward women who have been trying unsuccessfully for over a year. You might have better luck with the Trying to Conceive or First Trimester boards.

That said- HCG levels should double every 48 hours or so. So as your numbers are very low, it's entirely possible that you are experiencing a chemical pregnancy. Which is a super early miscarriage. If that's the case, I'm sorry for your loss. Most women don't even know they had them; they just dismiss their bleeding as a later than normal period. Stay in touch with your doctor, get your lab work rechecked, and good luck. Read the other boards for more info.

  • Thanks ladies. I was not sure where to start. We had had trouble up to this point TTC. I am not sure if any of the ladies here have ever experienced a chemical pregnancy.

I'm sorry for the disappointing betas, but it does sound like you are probably having a chemical pregnancy.

That being said it doesn't sound like you are having trouble trying to conceive, unless I am reading your post wrong.  It looks like you said you came off of BC in October and have had regular 28-30 day cycles pretty much since then.  That is only 7 months.  It can take a healthy couple up to a year to get pregnant.  I recommend visiting the Trying to Get Pregnant board and reading their newbie link/blog.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope you get some answers soon.

Yes, TTGP is the correct board for you unless you have a diagnosed IF problem and are under care of an RE.
Like PP said, please visit PGal or 1st tri if you want to talk about chemical pregnancies. If that is what you're having and you do TTC again soon, you can visit TTGPAL. But until then, it is hurtful for them to have someone come in asking about a possible BFP.
