10.5 mo. old nursing strike or weaning?

I nurse DD typically before bedtime as part of her routine. She also nurses about three times during the day. The last three nights, when it comes to bedtime, she won't nurse. But she is content to cuddle. I thought it might have been the soap I was using so I didn't use it tonight for my shower. Same thing. We didn't nurse. But we did cuddle. I'm going to try one more time tomorrow, but I'm not going to shower before I nurse her. I'm really sad. I didn't want her to wean the bedtime feeding yet. I thought that would be the last to go. And she isn't even a year old yet. I want to make sure she nurses at least a year, if not 15-18 months. I just cried while I rocked her. And of course she was smiling and making eyes at me. I'm just not ready for this. Could it be she's on a strike? The thing is, she nurses just fine during the day. She starts getting really clingy and crawling on me and looking at my chest when she is ready to nurse. So I know it isn't a complete nursing strike. Any other moms experience thi

Off topic but I'm so jealous your LO cuddles. DS doesn't like to sit still and hasn't ever really cuddled with me for more than a minute before squirming.

DS used to nurse, even though he wasn't hungry. Comfort nursing I guess. Now he nurses each side but is quickly finished. So we read a few books before I put him into his crib. Maybe they are growing out of it? I hope not already!

  • Don't give up.  Keep offering.  It is possible she's teething or just going through a phase.  My son acts like that from time to time.  If after a couple of weeks she is still acting this way then I would say she's self weaning.  But for now, I think this is normal behavior.

Agree! It could be a phase. My LO has had lots of weird phases during our BF relationship, and they always pass. Try not to overanalyze or get stressed out, and keep offering.

  • My LO did this on and often for a couple of months, but I continued to offer, and he would take it occasionally. Once he didn't take this feeding for about a month straight, I gave up on it, and now we just cuddle before bed. He still has four nursings a day though.

  • This went on with my LO for a couple of weeks when she was cutting her top teeth.  She would nurse pretty well for a couple of feedings and then pretty much nothing for a couple.  I just kept offering and eventually it got better and now she is nursing normally again.
