Any sleep advice?

DS is 14 weeks. Around 11 weeks he went on a more normal nighttime sleep schedule (to bed around 7:30-8 and only one wake up). We've had the same routine for weeks now and we put him down drowsy. He falls asleep within 20 minutes if not sooner. But, inevitably he wakes up between 1 and 1:30 every night to eat. This is only 5 hours at a time! At 14 weeks, I would have thought he could go longer. And, he used to sleep longer than this when he was younger.

He's usually awake between 6:30-7:30. Except the last 2 weeks. He keeps waking up at 1:30 and 4:45 or 5. Usually I spend a lot of time putting him back to sleep at 5am because I didn't want to start him eating twice per night again. I had to feed him yesterday because he was inconsolable but this morning he went back after a few tries. He's just so inconsistent, it's perplexing.

Since he's not 4 months, I know it's not sleep regression. Any one has any ideas to have him sleep longer? Or, why in the world he's waking up at 5am all of a sudden? By the way, he's always been a terrible napper, 30 minutes about 4 times a day. I've also worked hard on this, but he's been this way since 5 weeks. So, I've concluded this must just be him.

Re: Any sleep advice?

  • My LO is exactly the same--same for naps and night wake ups. I think it might just be the way it is. I don't have much advice other than just try to accept it! I thought my daughter would be sleeping through the night now too, but I guess it's pretty common for them not to yet. Crazy!

  • I don't really have any advice but I will say that you aren't alone.

My girl is 3 months. She started STTN at 9 weeks down at 7:30, dreamfeed about 10:30 and out until 7:00. But in the past week she started waking up at 5. Then stopped doing that and started waking up at 3 past 3 nights.

She has alway been a bad napper. 30 to 45 minutes tops. I can get a good hour and a half nap out of her in the morning but that's it.

I feel like she is in a phase... She was on a nursing strike this weekend and still isn't loving evening feedings. However I pump and then she will eat so she is still getting full feedings. I don't feel like hunger is the issue at night. I tried nursing a few times but she was not interested.

Thanks everyone. It's good to know we're not alone. I am trying to be patient and not frustrated. But, that's hard too.
