I have been lurking for a while now and decided it would be nice to talk to ladies who are going through the same thing. I have an 18month old beautiful son and got pregnant really easy. Had a textbook pregnancy, but a very difficult delivery. My dh decided that when ds turned 1 we would start trying again. I thought it would take a few cycles and we would be preparing for number 2. I guess the joke was on me. We have been trying for 8 months now.
Been to dr and went through blood work and turns out I have high prolactin levels due to a pituitary adenoma. This is causing me to not be able to conceive.
Been on cabergoline for 3 months and I guess I'm just waiting for it to work. Just frusturated cause ever since been on meds i have had shorter cycles and a lot more cramping before af. I just turned 35 and starting to get discouraged after every month I don't see a bfp. I feel guilty sometimes too, because I have a beautiful healthy son and feel like I should just count my blessings.
My obgyn seems confident that the meds will work and I will be able to get pregnant again. At what point do you guys think I should ask to see a RE dr?
Thanks for reading and sorry for long intro.
Re: Intro
Hi! I'm new here too. Like you, I easily conceived my daughter the first time, and have been struggling for a while TTC #2.
I think it's great that your doctor has identified something that may be a contributing factor, but I think if you suspect there's more to it, then it would certainly help to consult with an RE who can run specific tests to see if there's anything else that may impede conception. After DH and I tried unsuccessfully for 6 months, I knew in my heart that something was wrong, but my OB told me to wait longer. It wasn't until I kept pestering her for another 4 months that she referred me to my RE (who I love). Then after going through all the tests took another 2 1/2 months. By the time we had any answers, we had been TTC for well over a year.
So, long answer to a short one: If you are concerned about time, I would find an RE sooner rather than later to have more specific answers. Whatever you decide, best of luck to you and I hope that you have your good news soon!!
