Hi Ladies,
How many ounces of milk is your LO drinking? DD is still breastfeeding and has been drinking 6-8 ounces of breastmilk in bottles while I'm at work since she turned 9 months. She is away from more for about 7 1/2 hours a day while I'm at work.
We usually send pumped breatmilk and whole milk. My mom usually watches her while I'm at work but last week and this week she was with my MIL for one day of the week. Anyway, both times I sent 3 ounces of breatmilk and 5 ounces of whole milk and my MIL said that it wasn't enough. I should have asked her if DD really wanted more or if SHE, meaning MIL, didn't think it was enough. It seems to be enough when I leave her with my mom.
She eats solids 3 times a day and is a great eater. We feed her a lot of veggies, meats, cheese, eggs, yogurt, fruit, etc. And she still nurses a TON when we're together. I would say she nurses about 5 times a day.
I just want to make sure she's getting all of the nutrition we need. Oh and I asked my pedi about this at her 12 month visit when we were starting to think about introducing whole milk and he was very lax about it. He was kind of like "Well, just offer her some in a bottle and see how much she'll drink." He never mentioned how much she should be drinking.
She's 14 months if that matters.
Thanks Ladies and sorry it was so long.
Re: How many ounces of milk?
This. If you're nursing 5 times a day, then any milk you give her is pretty much bonus. At this age milk isn't supposed to replace a feeding, it's an addition to everything else she's eating.
At 14 months, my guy was only nursing twice a day, and I have no idea how much milk he was drinking. He had a half-gallon of milk at daycare they used to fill his cup at milk and snack, but I don't know how much he was actually drinking. At most it would have been 10-12 oz.
Currently (19 months) he drinks more milk, but he only nurses once a day. He has a strawcup of milk at breakfast, I send 9oz in with him during the day, and sometimes he has some with dinner. I treat it like any other food, so if he asks for it with a meal, I give him some.

My pedi said that LO should get no more than 24 ounces of milk and formula a day.
We had stopped formula completely for not longer than a week, because LO got so constipated. Now he only has a 9oz bottle of whole milk a day and his other bottles are still formula. Sometimes I'll give him another small bottle of whole milk, because he does seem to like it. But it is the only thing in his diet really that could be backing him up...
He probably only has 18 to 20 ounces of formula and milk a day though. Mostly still purees (he LOVES them in the pouches!!) and cereal, and lots of bites of whatever mom and dad are eating (: Since his last bad back-up, he has been pooping everyday again and sometimes twice!
