Hot in the car seat

I need some car seat help. It hasn't got very hot out and our lil one is already overheating in the car seat.  He gets so hot and sweaty and is just so miserable.  Is there anything that helps?  Any help is much appreciated!

Re: Hot in the car seat

  • You can't add an aftermarket product, so that is out. The only solution is to dress him very lightly, no blankets, and run the AC about 5 minutes before you get in or just run the AC.

Our LO just grew out if the infant insert, and it's a bit cooler without that. Although, safety comes before comfort, so I would only take it out if your LO is the right size.
  • The sun shades that attach to the window help a little, like PP said starting car and turning on a/c prior to putting LO in, no blankets, light outfits. I give my LO a frozen teether, she enjoys the coldness while we travel about.

This. And if the car seat is already in the car before putting LO in, covering with a light colored towel between trips helps block the sun and keep buckles from getting too hot.

  • I'm worried about this also. A mom I know puts ice packs in a wetbag and leaves them in the car seat, when the seat is left in the car. They need to be removed prior to putting baby in the seat.

I rigged a redneck custom special with a piece of dryer vent hose and my a/c vent. None of it touches the car seat, but it blows cold air at DD. Not exactly klassy, but it does the job.

That's actually genius. We have an ice pack cover too, sunshades, and a battery operated fan on top of a/c.  It gets hot here.

  • I have a Kool Kid Car Seat Cooler which helps cool the seat before I buckle little guy in. www.twolittlemunchkins.com Of course I remove it before putting him in the seat.  Then I point the A/C vents to the ceiling so the air will bounce down to him.
