MSPI & rotavirus vaccine

Has anyone else experienced a reaction from the 3 course oral rotavirus vaccine? DS had some vomiting and diarrhea from the last dose (normal), but following the diarrhea, had green mucousy poop. The ingredients include fetal bovine serum which makes me think this is due to the cow  protein and not a normal side effect of the vaccine. We were *almost* back to 100% after my mom fed him some "tainted' freezer milk, and now we are worse than ever.

Re: MSPI & rotavirus vaccine

  • We had the same problem - I wish my pediatrician had mentioned it was a risk. It seems like if your doctor knows your child is MSPI they should tell you about that risk.  I wonder if any other vaccines can cause similar reactions?  My son is only getting a few at a time so he hasn't had many others yet.

  • My older DD developed a secondary lactose intolerance after the rotavirus vaccine that resolved over time.  My younger DD had multiple food protein intolerances, so my pedi and I decided it was best not to give her the vaccine since I SAH, and she wasn't around a lot of other kids.  I'm glad we opted not to do it.  DD2 outgrew almost all of her intolerances by the time she turned one.
  • My son had a reaction too - worse for the second dose  He is supposed to get a 3rd dose on Wednesday and I am debating it.  I worry that the 3rd reaction will be even worse and am also frustrated I wasn't warned about it since his doctor knows he is MSPI.  He is in daycare 3 days a week so I want him to be protected against the illness.  Such a difficult decision!
