Traveling with an Infant

Sorry to hog the wall this evening lol

I will be traveling via airplane (on my lap) with my LO to Florida in June.  He will be a little over 2 months old and I was wondering what I should bring on the plane and to my destination.   I can mail stuff to a family members house if I need to.  I was thinking of carrying him in the Baby BJorn???  What is your advice and experience?

Thanks in advance

I would definitely recommend wearing your baby as much as you can, but you will have to have them in your lap for takeoff and landing.  Be sure to have a bottle or BF during takeoff and landing, as that will help with the pressure changes.  If you use formula, it is ok for that to go through security in more than the 3 ounces.  They just have to test it separately and so it might take you longer to go through security.

I also had a smallish stroller since we used it at our destination, and it was nice to have something to sit her in. When we flew, my daughter was about 7 months old (4.5 months adjusted), so she was pretty small.  I didn't really need much to keep her entertained and she napped most of the trip.

  • I agree with pp! A carrier is great. I would also try to avoid any carry on items except your diaper bag, it's just one more thing to worry about. If you're going to bring a stroller and carseat I recommend doing a gate check. Just check it at the gate and you drop it off before you board and its there right when u get off the plane. Stewardess' are usually super nice/helpful to people with families, so don't be afraid to ask if you need something! Good luck! It's easier than you think

  • Wear LO whenever possible - especially through security. Pack as little as possible. Buy diapers, wipes, etc once you are there. Plan to nurse or feed during take off and landings. He will be so little that I wouldn't worry about entertainment etc. he will probably sleep for a lot of it. GL!

  • Oh my goodness, so easy!!!  I traveled with my DD for the first time when she was 3 months old and it was ridiculously easy.  I carried her in the moby, with a backpack and a roller suitcase.  I did get away with 2 liquid bags to bring through security and included all of our toiletries.  My parents have a car seat and a crib and we traveled in the winter, so I didn't have to check anything, it was awesome.

I kept the backpack under the seat in front of us, and I included diapers and an extra change of clothes for both of us.  I also brought a travel neck pillow to use as a mini-boppy and that was so helpful.  She nursed pretty much the entire time and slept.  Like I said, the travel with a 2-month old is going to be super easy.
