Trouble TTC

Positive Results of IUIs?

Anyone know the statistics of IUIs working? We're starting next month and we can afford 3 cycles. Any literature I've found has said something like 87% of couples that don't have any medical issues (in other words, unexplained IF) have success after multiple IUI cycles.

Sounds vague to me. What's multiple? 2, 3, 342354251?

Sigh. I know this is over thinking it, but I love numbers. Numbers comfort me.

Re: Positive Results of IUIs?

  • I have heard about 20% chance each cycle, which is about a 50% chance after 3 cycles (I think this is for medicated IUI and Unexplained IF).

ETA: This study claims 11% per cycle for Clomid + IUI  https://www.advancedfertility.com/iui-success-rates.htm

This study shows 16.4% per cycle or 39% after 3 cycles  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2505167/

Shadygrove shows about 15% per cycle for Unexplained IF  https://www.shadygrovefertility.com/intrauterine-insemination-iui-success-rates

  • It depends on your diagnosis, and some other factors, but I am 32 and have Unexplained Infertility, and my RE initially told me around 10-15% chance, however after 3, that goes down significantly. HTH!

    Ok, here's the actual science:

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22513911

This is from a very well regarded source, and it's combining together the results from six different rigorous studies, looking specifically at couples with unexplained infertility.

If I'm reading it right, it says that the percentage of women with a live birth from IUI is 25.9%.  I'm pretty sure that's the number from a single cycle, not multiple attempts.

All the usual disclaimers - I'm not a doctor, and your personal odds are also going to be based on other factors like your age, etc.  But this is a solid starting point for recent research.

    Thanks!
