Car Seat Question (XP)

Another few months and DS will have outgrown his infant car seat.  So DH and I are trying to figure out what to do next.  Currently DD is in a convertible car seat.  She's still RFing though she's getting close to exceeding the height limit so it's only a matter of time until we will have to turn her FFing.  Anyway, I am wondering if we should get a five point booster for her or just buy another convertible car seat for DS.  Are the convertibles safer than the five point boosters?  Thanks!

    5 point boosters are just as safe as forward facing convertibles. I would get a 5 pt booster. The britax frontier and graco nautilus or Argos get great reviews. I think the frontier will last the longest.

    We gave the convertible to DD2 and got DD1 a Graco Nautilus. She was 2y9m and had outgrown the convertible seat by height, so while I would have liked to RF her to 3y, we couldn't fit a larger convertible in our car so we turned her FFing. The Nautilus will convert to a high back and backless booster after the 5pt harness, so I feel like it was a better investment than a second convertible.

    From your signature I'm seeing that your child is only 4 months old.  If your baby is getting close to outgrowing the infant car seat you cannot FF until they are a year, and the recommendation is to wait until they are 2 so I would definitely make sure to get a convertible car seat unless of course you were talking about getting the 5  point harness booster for your older child and using a current convertible that you have for your younger.

    We have the Evenflo Triumph and like it. We kept lo rear facing in it until she was almost 2. She is now forward facing and the weight limit is 65 pounds. It's not expensive either and a top safety pick.

    She was talking about handing the convertible down. 

    OP,  second responder had good suggestions. Although at your dd's age you could hand down the seat and get a taller rf seat and continue to rf. Unless your dd is like mine and off the charts. She still fits rf in the Radian, not for long, but if it were available here I'd get a Graco MySize.
