  • Yesterday was the first day in a long while that DS1 finally brought home a report from school that was GOOD in terms of behavior.  I was ecstatic.  It was great to hear that he hadn't tried to push someone off of the jungle gym or hit a teacher.  A sigh of relief even if just for a day....hoping for 2 in a row today!

And I have a brag for myself---- I've been having a terrible time lately emotionally and stuff--and on top of it feel crappy about myself.  I splurged and bought 10 Minute Trainer (yes, I saw the infomercial Embarrassed) and I LOOOOOVE it.  Even if all I can do is 10 minutes in the morning, I feel a huge sense of accomplishment and they really work you for that 10 minutes---I'm not even kidding.  I try to do 2 workouts though.  Even my kids stare at me in disbelief....HA!  Anyways---I hope I'm on the road to a leaner me.

  • A brag for myself:

I've been so overwhelmed with all of Owl's behavioral stuff but I've come up with a plan that addresses most of the behaviors we don't like, hopefully my plan helps me to not stress so much.

    A brag for Owl:

She can count 1-3 without any prompting now!

    hoooooray!

And for your "plan" -- please share!  I'm open to any new ideas.

  • After receiving DD1'a OT evaluation and clinical dx yesterday,DH had a good talk about our plan.

Today, DD1 was able to attend to a task for 2 mins, with less than 6 verbal cues which is one of her goals.
  • Eeeek! AWESOME!

ETA: Sorry, that was meant to quote auntie. :)

This has been a good week.

DD1 and DD2 have decided that now that it's warm, they want to dress up in winter accessories (hats, scarves) and go to "Snow, Colorado." So they dragged a bunch of stuff out of our winter gear basket and scattered it all over. I was in the next room, and I heard DD1 say, "Elsa, if grownups see this mess, they will get mad at us. So we should clean it up so they don't get mad." And then they put everything back in the basket.

It was such a great moment of her thinking ahead, thinking about other people's reactions, suggesting a course of action to create a positive reaction, and following through. I came in after they were done and I couldn't say enough happy things. :) She did something similar one other time. If only I could get them to do it with the rest of their toys, lol!

She also had a good moment in the car when DD1 wanted to do to Starbucks for a cake pop, and DD2 wanted to go to Sonic for a slush (I was letting them pick a treat). DD1 kept saying, "I think we should change our minds," meaning, "I want DD2 to change her mind" lol. So I coached her through listing some pros/cons and suggestions to DD2, who did eventually give in to DD1's persuading. It was good practice for making appealing arguments.

  • DD is finally able to imitate us, like shaking her head no and WAVING! Something we have been trying to teach her for a long time.
She also is starting to point to things appropriately when she wants something!

I have to say I was nervous about starting ABA, but it was the best decision we ever made!
  • We've started walking everywhere in the apartment to encourage DD's coordination and balance. We have to support her under her arms, but her legs are flying! We had our first naked traipse the other night on our way to the bathroom for bathtime. I have been dying for this moment for ages. Now to get her to walk independently!

We had Lily's Wheelchair and Stander Eval.  There was some confusion about insurance coverage, so we won't be able to order until a week or two from now... I don't know if this is really brag, but I'm excited!

Most things to do with fine motor skills are definitely non-preferred activities.  On Sunday he spent a hour and a half coloring, cutting, and pasting.  He even worked really hard to stay in the lines.  He cut out a square, two egg shapes, several rectangles, and several circles the circles were pretty small too.

I observed him in class on Friday.  He had a few minor issues (sitting/standing too close to his BFF, blurting things out during opening group) but he was completely functioning in the mainstream classroom.  It was stark contrast to the first time I observed last year when he would just get up and leave or not participate at all.  I'm hopeful for Kindergarten.

DS good friend was visiting his grandma out of state for the last week and a half.  When we got to school he ran up and gave him a giant hug today.  He was so excited that he's back.

  • DD got her gait trainer last week.  I was sitting doing school work while she was in it this week and something made me stop and grab the iPad and videotape her.  I was able to catch her first unassisted step!  It was the best Mother's Day present ever!!
