Infertility

Haven't started IVF yet, but....

....I am so nervous and scared of what to expect! We are looking to start the process next month and I am usually a pretty easy-going type person, but this one has me very anxious. I know many of you have gone through it, would love to hear your reassuring words -- what was the worst part for you personally -- etc.. Thanks Sad

Re: Haven't started IVF yet, but....

  • Honestly, the worst part for me was the full bladder for ET. When I think of doing IVF again that is the only part that makes me anxious, physically speaking. The most stressful was between ER and ET, waiting to make sure my embryos were going to make it. The experience is different for everyone and hopefully yours won't be too difficult. Hang in there!

  • It's all so manageable! The worst part is waiting for fert reports and waiting for betas in the 2WW. The other thing that was tough on me was being unable to plan well, since appointments are every other day and sometimes in between and its all based on monitoring and how your body responds. Rely though...You can do it...the shots and ultrasounds and ER are a breeze.

    Are you out for the ER? My RE said an IV Sedative,,, which now I'm not so sure what that means.

  • I don't think it's as scary as it seemed. The shots were easy after the first couple. It is a bit hard to plan things because everything depends in how well you stim. For me, the most uncomfortable part was also the full bladder at ET. The worst and most stressful was waiting for my first beta and then the beta hell after that where my numbers were low and we weren't sure if my pregnancy would make it.

    You'll be sedated and out for ER. ER was really a breeze. You get sedated and wake up about 20 minutes later to learn how many eggs were retrieved. I just had minor cramping afterwards, nothing bad. ER was actually the easiest part, I think.

  • For me, the worst was the anticipation before it all started and the waiting (ER report, fert report, beta). Actually doing stuff, like injects, ER, ET, was rather easy. At each step you realise that you're much stronger than what you thought you were and you just keep going. I wish you all the best for your cycle!

    The scariest thing is not knowing what to expect. The whole process is pretty manageable. Oddly enough, I was kind of sad when the injections were over. It was probably hormones, but also just part of trying to take every step of the process for what it was.  Hang in there!!
  • Obviously we've all lived through it so you can too! ;
    It is very scary to imagine and sometimes I still can't believe I went through with it. Everybody's experience is so different it's hard to determine.

    Personally, I thought the emotional stress of it all was pretty bad, waiting on follies to grow, waiting on FERT report, waiting on betas, even after a positive, you're still waiting...so it really never ends. It's also very time consuming, plan on having to take a cpl hours of work every other day while monitoring. Then days off for ER and ET.
    Def not a fan of the shots, but they didn't sting or burn and I really didn't bruise. I had less side effects from the shots than clomid.
    Near the end I was extremely uncomfortable and I only had 10 eggs.

    Egg retrieval was the worst part for me. I found it to be incredibly painful the days following, but luckily the pain subsided 4dpt. But I did go back to wk the next day and dealt with the pain. My RE let me empty my bladder a little before ET so that helped. But we've all held pee before so I really didn't find that to be a big deal!

    As I said earlier. I think there's a thing called "too much information" and for me that's what IVF is. You're so aware about everything going on in your body it can get overly stressful. You're so emotionally, physically, and financially invested how can you not stress!!??

    But you will be okay in the end. I survived just fine, but I can't say I'd go through a fresh cycle again. Just my personal opinion.
