One & Done: Only child

*Fianschneid*--Thanks!

I meant to post this sooner, but I just sidelined by the stomach flu.

I took DS to Kids in the Square on Saturday, and he had a blast.  He got to pet another dog, did some yoga, fed my mom the frosting off his cookie, and made/ate a candy necklace.  Thanks so much for the recommendation!

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it. DD had a great time, too.

We went towards the beginning of the morning. We didn't have to wait in a line for balloon animals and DD loved the cookie, too. She also camped out at the activity table from Pickle's Playroom for a long time.

I hope you're starting to feel better.

  • Finally starting to feel better, thanks.

We played at the Pickles Playroom table for a while too.  Have you ever been to the actual playroom?  We've gone to other indoor play places but not this one, but I want to try it out.

    Adorable picture by the way!

  • DD got a 10 play pass to Pickles for Christmas. It was great when the weather was beyond cold in January and February and she needed to burn off some energy. I found it pretty clean and age appropriate. DD always wanted to play on the 3 and up structure and I would just go with her.

There were a couple of frustrating times when we would get all the way there, only to find out they were closed for a birthday party on a Saturday. They are closed on all Sundays for private events, so we didn't realize they would also do events on Saturdays. We can take part of the blame for that one, as they later told us they post closing on their Facebook page.

I'll definitely keep it in my back pocket for rainy days. I haven't been to any of the other indoor playgrounds. Are there some in the area you would recommend?

  • The closest to Lincoln Square is Family Grounds (near Trader Joe's), and it's okay.  It's a little on the smaller side, and it can get crowded. It's good if you need to grab something to eat and need to distract a child.

Little Beans is near Elston and Webster, and I like it better.  A much bigger play area with lots of activities for babies and toddlers.  When DS was barely crawling, there was a little fenced in area for babies too.  They also have a separate cafe.  Sometimes there is a wait, but it normally goes pretty quick.

Our favorite, however, is the Exploritorium in Skokie that I've mentioned on here before.  It's big, has so many cool activities including a climbing wall and massive tube playground (DS is still too little for but my 3-year-old niece loves), a water table, etc.
