1st Trimester

What to Take For Acid Reflux

I'm about to lose my mind. I don't have heartburn but the acid reflux is going to kill me. I'm constantly tasting stomach acid and my throat burns. What's safe to take for this? Everything I eat tastes funny because of this, which makes it hard to eat.

Tums, Rolaids, milk, or you could even take a calcium / magnesium supplement. They will help but after a while you wish you never saw a Tums again.

My husband suffers from this and he has taken every kind of medicine to ease it. He says the best thing he has found is one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water! This is great for me because I'm trying to avoid all OTC medicines unless totally necessary and approved by my dr. Give it a try, tastes weird but it's totally natural.

I already do - I hate Tums. Lol They taste horrible. I might try milk; I love a glass before bed, but maybe I'll just drink it off and on throughout the day.

I might try this, too, if the milk doesn't work. Is this one of the symptoms that tends to ease up during the second trimester, or are we stuck with this until the end?

  • Zantac 75 is on the safe list.  Tums tastes revolting to me when I'm pregnant and milk doesn't always work for me.

Take tums. Ask your doctor about omeprazole as well.

  • Thanks guys! I'll definitely try these and hopefully something will work!
  • I had the same problem with my first born, My OB had to change my script 4 times before we found something that worked, which was Nexium for me. You can always ask your OB to prescribe you something to help. I never had heartburn until I got pregnant. But it never went away after I had my daughter, And I'm experiencing it even worse now that I'm expecting again! Ugh

My OB OK'd Nexium for me, too.  I was taking 2 prevacids and it wasn't touching the acid reflux.  I was to the point I was sleeping sitting up.  It was horrible.  But since I started taking Nexium, life has been blissful and I can go back to sleeping normally.  I have terrible acid reflux to begin with (long before getting pregnant) ....
