Bathtub insert question

Baby is 4.5 months and we're having difficulty bathing him with the insert. It's almost perfect except he's too tall maybe. Washing his hair is hard because his head is too close to the edge. So we took out the insert and he can't sit unsupported yet so that doesn't work. Any ideas on what to use to keep him up but not too high...something I can use to have more freedom in adjusting the height.  Thanks!

    We've tried taking the insert out and just putting less water in the tub.  It's typically okay, since she kicks her legs out so much she basically holds herself in place by putting her feet on the side of the tub.  Sometimes we'll just put an inch or two of water in the regular tub and lay her in there on her back (although only if she's in a good mood to start... otherwise it's a disaster).  If she's happy when she goes in, she'll lay in there and splash around for awhile.

    We have the speed-bump type insert too, and then I use a cup to pour water over DD's head (with her head tilted back so it doesn't get in her face) to wash her hair.

    We went to a bath sling seat in the big tub.  It has different positions and our boys really love it as they can still kick and splash in the water. One of ours like to lay down in the water so I recline it all the way while his brother would rather sit up more.  It also folds flat so it can easily be put away.  This is what we have.

    Thanks for all of your thoughts. Like someone said, when I wash his hair all the water pours out the back and onto the floor. But I'm going to try moving the baby tub to the big bath tub. That makes so much sense! Thank you :)
