Dads & Dads-to-be

Coed baby showers/gifts for dad

What are your thoughts on coed showers? We are having a BabyQ and invited entire families with BYOB. Obviously I won't be drinking but I wanted to include dad to be and make it a fun celebration.

Also, what are some gifts for dad to be that made you guys smile, baby related or otherwise. I really would like for him to feel included and just as special as me and the baby.

  • My friends had a co-ed shower/BBQ and we had a great time.  BBQ chicken and lots of beer will make most events tolerable/pleasant for men.

  • Were there any gifts that anyone got you specifically that made your day?

The only gifts I've received so far have been a bottle of Jager from a friend and a pack of diapers from one of my Aunts because in her words, "you gotta start somewhere."

In general it would be nice if someone would buy me a new TV but that's not pregnancy-specific.  I just like fancy electronics.

  • We didn't do a co-ed baby shower, but I did show up for the gifts.  However, given the time of year, a BabyQ is a great idea for a co-ed shower.

As far as gifts, primarily it is for the baby... not the dad.  However, there are things that dads would like.  A little onesie for the baby for their favorite sports team for example, or a small jersey for baby that says "son" or "daughter" on back and one for dad that has "dad" on the back perhaps.  I have heard of dads getting a bottle of scotch or something that ages well that they plan to keep and share a drink on their child's 21st birthday.

I'm doing the same thing in July for ours.  DW already said I don't have to be there for the games or whatever else they have planned, just opening the gifts.

  • As long as there is good food and good booze, don't worry about dad getting his own special gift. It's not like he won't be using a lot of the gifts for the baby which is half his!
