Tip toeing?

Anyone else's kid like to walk on their tip toes? C has done it for a while, and I never really thought about it. He can walk normal and runs too, but not that well. When he's barefoot, he seems to walk more on his toes than not. Like I said, I never thought it was a big deal, but the other day my dad asked what the Dr. said about it, and if she was worried and I realized I've never brought it up to her. I just googled it ALWAYS a bad idea and it looks like it could be a sign of a bigger issue. We don't have a pedi appointment again until he is two years in Sept. Should I call his dr now and ask about this?

Re: Tip toeing?

  • Lylah walked in her toes always!
She did it when she was happy and playing. But she could walk normal and run fairly well. She's not athletic

If he ..can.. Do it normally, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

O does it sometimes. I think just because its a new skill hes learner. I did it A LOT as a kid, I specifically remember doing it outside barefoot because I didn't like how it felt on my feet

  • Matt does a lot but he walks and run normal. I even do it, since I was a little girl. I don't do it much but without noticing I do take some steps with my tip toes :P

  • I noticed C started doing this a few months ago. I think it's just something she does because she can.

  • DD tip toed consistently until she was almost 3.  She could always walk and run normally when she had shoes on but bare foot it was always on her toes.  We used to call her our little ballerina.  She's is now 7 yo and has no lingering issues because of the tip toeing she did.  If you're worried you should call your Dr to make you feel better but speaking from my experience, it didn't do any harm.  It was just a phase that she got over.

  • Thanks everyone! Glad to know it's relatively normal! I figured it was fine until my dad started asking what the dr thought. He walks normal too, and runs, he's just slower than my niece was at his age and he pounds his feet when he runs, but I used to do that too. So he's probably just inherited my athletic abilities. Poor child. Haha

Tatum does it a whole lot too, but not all the time, and she generally walks and runs normally, so I also just figured this was something she was doing because she only recently figured out how and she gets a kick out of it.

I think it's only something to be concerned about if the tip toeing is all the time thing, and they're not really walking or running normally.

  • DS will do this on occasion.  I have a niece who is now about the age of 9 and she ALWAYS walked on her tiptoes.  I think she's finally stopped doing it but she just stopped recently.  Her brother (now 16) also walked on his tiptoes all the time and still does it on occasion.  Neither of them have any "issues" -- I think it just became a habit.
