Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How often do you bathe your baby?

I first started bathing my little one about every 4 days (as according to the hospital nurse). It's now become more frequent due to spitting up, fuller/more diapers, ect. He will be 5 months old on the 25th, and I was just wondering if it is to early to start bathing him nightly? Not that he really needs it, more so that he gets used to this bed time routine. I feel a little, dare I say, *dumb* for asking this, but as a first time mom, I worry about even the simple things. Thanks for any advice!! :)

  • We bathe our LO every day... mainly because our pedi recommended it to help with the eczema DS has been battling. Before that we were every 2 to 3 days.

  • We've been bathing daily since probably 2 mos, in order to get him in a bedtime routine. I wash his hair every other day and don't use soap on his body, same as DD.

  • We give DD her bath every other day. It's part of her bedtime routine. On the nights she does not get a bath she gets a sponge bath.
  • Wed and Sun nights are bath night. But she starts daycare soon so we're adding a 3rd night. If she had a major spit up or blowout I may bathe her but otherwise she's not getting too dirty hanging out at home with Mom :
  • We also only bathe LO about 2 or 3 nights bc I feel as though it dries out her skin but I think we're going to start with every other day soon bc she's smelling a little cheesy lately :)

  • If I had the time at night I'd do nightly. When DS doesn't have school in the morning I have better luck. She likes baths and she sleeps better after, plus its recommended to do nightly no soap baths for her because she has issues with labial adhesions. But we usually end up with 2 real baths and a few sink baths a weeks. With DH gone most nights and having to get DS to bed I can't do it nightly. I just keep an eye in her girly bits to make sure they aren't growing back together again.

  • Every other day.

I might start every day without soap because I think he sleeps better on bath days and it helps out routine.

  • We bathe both our kids every other day it has seemed to work out both with their level of messy and our schedules.

  • We bathe her 2x week.  If I were going to bathe her everyday I don't think I would use soap.  I think you'll have to figure out what works best for you guys though.  Some babies get dry skin from over-bathing.  Some don't have problems with it.  I also don't think it has to be part of a nighttime routine, but obviously it's totally up to what works for you.  There's no right answer :)

Well, unless you're letting your baby go so long between baths that they're getting really icky and dirty of course.  That's the wrong answer ;)

  • Bath time is every night as a part of his bed time routine. He loves bath time. He kicks and splashes around. Believe it or not, he actually kind gets mad when it's time to get out. He gets all "raisin-y". I, do add warm water about two times while he is in there. He stays in there for a good 20 min.

  • Wednesday nights and Sunday nights.  I sometimes add another night in there if he's had an especially messy diaper or spit up.

  • We bathe our LO every night now days...due to her minor case of eczema and spit ups and chubby neck. :P   It's part of our night/bedtime routine.

  • We bathe our LO every other night. On the other nights, if he has been in daycare, I usually wash down his face, neck and hands with a washcloth. The only exception is if he had spit up really bad or had a blow out---then it's just no return. If I could bathe him every night, I probably would. He loves bathtime, but the reality is with working that I just have other things to get done around the house and for him that it's pretty difficult. As he gets older, we will have to explore doing the daily baths if needed.

  • I definitely don't think it's too early to start bathing him daily. We bathe our daughter every other day. She has a pretty set bedtime routine that we don't need the bath for her to know it's bed time. It's whatever works for you :)

We do twice a week, and don't usually use soap. He's not a spitter though and he's never had a blowout in cloth, so he's not a super dirty guy yet.

  • Whatever works for you. We don't do baths at night, usually mid morning, so its not part of any routine. We usually do twice a week, she just doesn't get that dirty.

  • DD is 5 months and we bathe her every night. She loves her bath and sits in there for a good 20 minutes splashing around and playing with her toys. And then when the water is draining she likes to get on her tummy and "swim" around.

I wash her hair every other night (I pretend to on non-wash nights, she likes her hair washed) and unless needed only really use soap on her diaper area.

And sometimes she gets a bath in the morning if she pees out of her night diaper. She pees a lot!

  • At least once a day, sometimes more.  DH gets her in the shower with him.  She spits up a lot so if we don't bathe her I feel like she smells like spit up all day!

  • Every day since the umbilical cord stump fell off. We don't have any skin problems to prevent us from it, and if I was sitting in a diaper all day, I know I would want a bath too!
