Surgery -- eeek

R has had a lot of problems with ear infections.  He has probably had 8-10 ear infections throughout his 13 month life.  We finally got some answers from our 2nd ENT doctor.  He recommended tubes be put in and adenoids removed.  We go for surgery at 6:30am in the morning.  I know that this is a very common surgery so I"m sure that all will be fine.  Just wondering what to expect afterwards?  Anyone who has experienced this -- please let me know how your LO handeld the surgery.

Thanks :)

DS had tubes put in a month ago.  The surgery was quick (7 mins).  We were away from LO for 15 mins total.  The nurse came and got us from the waiting room, we went back and another nurse walked toward us holding DS and he was whining a bit, I nursed him, then the nurse brought in a toy and he played with that while we waited for 10 mins to make sure he was ok and we left.

Now DS sleeps sooooo good and 4 weeks is the longest we've gone with no infection.  The anticipation of the surgery is the worst.

  • We only had his tubes put in, but it has been amazing. The surgery was super fast and he has been doing very well ever since (January). He was gone about 15 minutes and my hubby went back to help with the anesthesia then joined me in the waiting room. He was brought back to a recovery room and we were brought back immediately. He was already awake and was understandable upset. Cuddles and milk and he was much better. I packed the milk as they only had juice or water (not a big fan of either) and brought his own blanket and lovie as well. We only had to stay another half hour and were sent home. At home he was a totally normal baby; played, ate, and napped well. Good luck!

DS had tubes put in 6 days before he turned 1. As others have said, the procedure is very quick. We waited longer in the waiting room than the whole surgery and recovery time took. The worst part was when he was coming out of the anesthesia he cried pretty hard but we just held him and once we were in the car on the way home he was fine. He has been ear infection free for almost 5 months despite several colds since then.
