One & Done: Only child

The good things about being OAD

1.  Bedtime with one child is pretty easy most of the time.  Once ds started sleeping through the night, dh and I can usually count on 2 hours of together time every night.

2.  Eating out is a quieter affair,  We went out to eat a few months ago, and there was family with 5 kids the next table over.  Three of the kids were running around the table, and one kid was throwing food on the floor.  Now granted, there was probably some parenting fails there, but with just ds, that doesn't happen with us.

3.  Vacations are cheaper.  We plan to go to Disney next year, and it will be expensive enough with one child.  I couldn't imagine paying for multiple kids.

4. It's easy to find a sitter most of the time.

5.  Paying for college or any kind of community college will be easier.

6.  Once ds is fully potty trained - No more diapers, wipes, or pull-ups EVER AGAIN!

Those are just some perks I came up with.  Feel free to add your own :)

    1) when they are older being able to go to all their activities and events (not to mention having the luxury of being able to afford it)

    2) not only are vacations less costly they are less stressful

    3) you are never outnumbered, even when you spouse is away LOL.  We both travel for work so when one of us is away it is not difficult to manage.  I always joke that children should never outnumber adults so I only have one in case my husband leaves the room..haha

    4) not having to referee sibling fights, see that alot with my friends now when their oldest is the same as my son and the sibling is 2 to 3 years younger.  It is crazy how much they bicker!

    1. EVERYTHING

Seriously though, I can't think of any perks involved in having multiple children! The hours my children would spend playing together would be cancelled out by the hours I spent refereeing them.

that being said, I know many people enjoy their multiple children. Good for them.

The silver lining in being OAD for me comes down to one word: resources. My time, money, patience are all resources that he does not have to share with a sibling. If we had been blessed with a second child, I know that my ability to love would grow to accommodate a larger family, but there is no denying that things like money and time don't grow by magic, and it would be shared by both children. We have already made choices with regard to his schooling, how much we are saving for college, and his many activities that would have gone differently had we had more than one child.

I think everyone really got the basics down already.

DS is really amazing. I love him to pieces & have no desire for another kid.

    Yep, this right here!  :-)
