Just out of curiosity...

Is anyone using their crib bumpers?

Re: Just out of curiosity...

  • No but I'm not much help as we gave away our crib before dd was born and never bought another one.

Nope. Never have. The period of time where I worried about DS getting a limb stuck out or getting hurt was so short it wouldn't have been worth it anyway.

  • No. After about 6 weeks of changing the sheets with that thing on I said "crew this" and took it off!

It was cute, but a pain, plus not that DS stands up in his crib, I am pretty sure he would try and stand on it if it was there and that is where the real hazard is (as far as I am concerned).

Yes, we are. Jack loves them. He likes to smush himself in the corner of the crib with his head pressed against them. It is a major pain to untie them all to change the sheets! Ugh! He has only been using them for the past few months. He slept next to my bed until he was about 6 1/2 months and even then I waited a little bit to start using them to make sure he was good and strong enough to keep from getting caught up in them or anything. We might have to drop his bed to the lowest level here soon because he is starting to try and step up on them, like he's going to climb out.

  • Still just have the breathable bumpers on the crib. If I had regular bumpers to change to I would use regular ones.
  • We've used both the breathable and the regular bumpers.... The breathable were not as helpful as I thought they'd be. She was able to pull them down all the time so we were constantly fixing them. We then switched to the regular bumpers and we are happy with them. They are still on her crib and I haven't even thought about when we'll take them off.

  • No, we never did. I wish we did break some rules because the crib is so bare and inhospitable. I think DD would like to sleep there better if there were blankets and stuff. But I do not break safety rules (just me, not judging anyone).

  • We're still using our breathable bumpers. We have the crib on the lowest setting so he can't climb out, and the mesh just slides down if he tries to step on it anyway.

I always think this! DS's crib is white and has a white sheet. It looks so cold and uninviting!

My friend has bumpers and a little nook of blankets and stuffies in her son's crib and it looks so cozy! But I just can't bring myself to put anything in there. Plus DS has been starting to climb so no way I'd give him any leverage now!

This is where I am at too....

DD is now co-sleeping with us since she has been sick and a part of me wonders if her bed was more comfy and inviting like ours, she would spend more time in it.

But I am still hesitant with the bumpers!

  • Nope, never used them.  She has a cute bed skirt and sheet and that's it.  1 more month til she can sleep w/ a blankie though! :)

  • I wove mine through the bars of the crib - just to make it more inviting and give her something to look at (it's patterned with animals).  But then, she also sleeps with a blanket and there's usually a few stuffed animals in there with her.  Once I learned her sleeping habits and she was strong and mobile, I stopped worrying about that stuff (around 6 months).

She didn't start sleeping in there until 7 or 8 months anyway.

  • I put DD's on around 6 months, when she started getting limbs stuck a little bit, and no problems since.  I have zipper sheets, so no issues with changing the sheets and having the bumper get in the way.

Yep and he has his monkey lovey in there plus like 10 pacis. For his 1st bday he'll get a pillow pet like his brothers and he can have that in there.

  • I do, only because my LO has started putting her feet out of the crib rails and freaking out like they are getting stuck, although they never have. She also chews like a beaver on the top of her crib, so I've tied a bumper over the top rail so she wont chew on it. ---I would love to take them off, but it is what it is?!
  • I use the breathable bumpers.  Keeps the pacis from rolling out and you can change the sheet without removing the bumper.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • We're using the breathable ones. Elliot is bad about smushing himself up into one corner and was constantly getting his leg stuck in the slats. I don't see myself taking them off any time soon. I find it easy to change the sheets without having to remove them.

  • Yes, I used bumpers with both of my boys from day 1.  Owen also uses a blanket.  He has a couple of soother animals (seahorse and monkey with music) and also his lovey (blanket bear).  All the same that I did with his big brother too.  Works great for us.
