Toddlers: 24 Months+

Dieting with a toddler in the house

Is horrible.  I've been working out for about a month and I thought I was watching what I was eating...until I started counting calories yesterday (no wonder the weight wasn't coming off).

Anyways, this morning I made us each a two egg bruschetta omelette for breakfast.  She ate all of hers, a Greek yogurt, and a chocolate chip pancake from the other day!  Along with along with a big glass of milk.  Watching her eat makes me want to eat more.

Yesterday it was so hard to feed her snacks (especially after dinner) and not take a bite or two myself.

So I'm trying to make myself healthy and filling meals so that I can hopefully keep up my willpower and not snack.  Any suggestions?

  • People weren't made to eat 3 meals a day. Divide your calories between 5 smaller meals and eat something during her snack time.

  • I still snack. I am using My Fitness Pal, so I sit down every evening and map out the whole next day's calories, divided between 3 meals and 3 snacks. I am a grazer by nature, and cutting out snacks just made me sneak what the kids were eating, so I adjusted to my current plan and have lost 21 lbs in 4 months.

I try to keep snacks to no more than 100 - 200 calories each, and choose things high in protein and and fiber. So for example, this morning's snack was a string cheese and an apple. Yesterday it was a strawberry protein smoothie. I also try to give the girls a snack similar to my own so I'm not tempted to snitch theirs, and I know they're getting something healthy, too.

  • I think snacking is important, just make them healthy snacks (veggies etc).

Or come to my house, living with toddlers IS dieting because they never let me have a bite, they always eat everything I'm trying to eat :)

  • I don't mean to be rude but honestly it sounds like you don't want it enough.  Just keep repeating this mantra "If you want something you don't have, you have to do something you're not doing".   Maybe use a reminder like a special bracelet that when you look at it reminds you of your goal.
