Hi all. I have had most of my tests completed, with the exception of the endometrial biopsy that happens next Monday. After that, I think we're ready to make a decision about IUI.
The thing is, it feels like my OBGYN's office is dragging their feet. They won't discuss it with me at length and keep telling me to wait until my next test is done. They're so vague and it's beginning to piss me off.
Am I just being too impatient because I want to have a baby so badly, or is this really a LONG process between testing and the first cycle of IUI?
Can anyone give me a general idea about the time line for these things? I tried looking online, but nothing concrete was mentioned.
Re: How long did initiating IUI take?
TTC since July 2011
BFP #1: 2/15/12-Ectopic/Mtx at 6 wks
BFP #2: 10/12/12-m/c at 5 wks.
Me: MTHFR, Low AMH (1.1), High NK cells and Antiphospholipid Antibodies.
IVF with ICSI in August 2013 brought us our babies. ER-9R, 7M, 4F w/ICSI ET of 2-Grade 2 blasts.
Dx shortened cervix, PTL, and preeclampsia during pregnancy. Lots of medications and 13 weeks of bedrest, babies were born healthy at 34w4d!
I agree with monimu on this one. Our situation was a little bit different in that we had testing done and a treatment plan over a year before we decided to proceed with IUI. That said, when we went in to sign our consent forms, we were cleared to do IUI immediately. We signed the consent forms, and a week later when my next cycle started, we began our IUI cycle.
Be an advocate for yourself. If your Dr. is not giving you the kind of answers that you need and are looking for, keep pushing. You deserve to be informed and on board with whatever the timeline looks like for treatment. Unless there is a clear reason why you can't move forward at this time, I would ask your Dr. for some clarification. GL to you!
** After 2 1/2 years of Unexplained IF, 2 failed medicated cycles, and 4 failed IUI's - our baby girl came to us through the miracle of Mini IVF! **
For my first IUI (with my OB/GYN) we did testing one cycle and did clomid + IUI the next.
When I started with my RE, he was a little slower to move onto treatments. We had our consult in January and I expected to start treatment right away. My doc decided that he wanted to run a few more tests and monitor a cycle. We missed our mid cycle u/s in February because I ovulated earlier. We did our monitoring in March, but my post coital test came back bad so he wanted to repeat it in April. We ended up throwing in a last minute IUI in April, since my PCT was still bad. So now it is May and we just did our first medicated treatment cycle.

PAIF/SAIF Welcome!
Every RE is different, but I'm getting anxious to get going, too. Our current RE wants to wait until late June to have our consult and didn't want to confirm if we should do IUI next...granted I've been having a hard time recovering since my lap, and he wants to see how I heal.
But I've seen the opposite, where my first RE wanted to hurry up and do IUI after my HSG, even though my tubes were partially clogged. She figured it was just due to cramping, but it turned out (now that my new RE did a lap) I had a lot of endo around them.
So if I have to choose...I'll choose to wait while the RE looks over every possible test, especially since everything would be OOP once I start IUI.
Me 33, DH 37 -- TTC since Jan'12 -- Low AMH (0.78) & endo, SA w/ low motility
IUI's 1-3 = BFN, IVF converted to IUI 4/13 = BFN
IVF 1.2: 8R 6M 4F -- 2 blastocysts frozen, FET 8/15 = BFP!!
Beta #s = 445;1,098; 9,545 -- EDD 5/2 -- Team Pink!
My RE wanted to started our IUI cycle fairly quickly after our initial testing was done. He didn't push us but he let us decide when we wanted to start. It took us a while because doesn't use Provera to start a cycle and my last cycle was 48 days long...
Like pp said, be an advocate for yourself. I can't remember if you have mentioned this in the past or not, but is there an RE available to you?
I hope you get a plan going soon! GL!

I'm sure there is an RE available to us, but we're getting our testing done through my OBGYN first. Then when we're ready for IUI he said he'd transfer us to an RE. But I'm getting impatient!
OH ok! I can definitely understand the impatience!! GL to you!

I had done fertility tests (bloodwork, ultrasound and HSG) with RE and had medical records sent to fertility specialist so he had them for initial consult. He gave me the 3 options, clomid/IUI, injectables/IUI and IVF. I chose injectables/IUI and he had them send pharmacy the prescription, told me to call and schedule 1st appointment when AF arrived and DH went for inject training while we were waiting for AF. We started once AF arrived (ultrasound/bloodwork that day) and then started injects that night. It was pretty fast.
I personally would skip the Gyn and head to RE. I only go to Gyn for annual pap smear.

Hi brianna, sorry your having trouble. Mine took from testing starting in Dec. and my medicated iui took place in March. I did not go through my obgyn. I went straight to a specialist-RE.
I do not think your being impatient. It is your money being spent, they should tell you what you need to know. My RE told me everything every step of the way. It is always nice to know your levels and where your at and where you should be. Good luck.
