I'm posting on this board hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel. :
LO is 9 weeks and loves/needs the pacifier to sleep. Therefore, he can't get past the first 45 minute sleep cycle because the pacifier has fallen out. Unless I move him to the swing, in which case he can go a good 23 hours.
Was this your situation? When did it get better? Did you do something or did your LO master napping on his own? Did you wean from pacifier, if so, when and how?
Thanks for any advice!
Re: Former 45 minute napper??
Sleep training was all that worked for us. We waited until he hit 5 mo. to start. We used Ferber's progressive waiting method. Things improved dramatically after a week. In retrospect, we probably could have started at 4 mo., but every baby is different.
WRT the paci, if you're still swaddling I know this won't help, but I've heard that the paci's with the little stuffed animal on the end are easier for them to put back in themselves. I believe they even sell just the little animal thing to put on whatever paci brand your LO prefers. When we stopped swaddling and moved to the Merlin's sleep suit my DS learned to put his back in and that is woooooonderful thing.
ETA: I just had a flashback and remembered that while we were still swaddling all the other types of pacis kept falling out of his mouth, so we went with these guys because they are a little bigger or something they seemed to kind of hang on his lips when he stopped sucking but not fall all the way out so he could work it back in when he wanted. HTH!

My son is also a 30-40 minute napper. Explain what you did in terms of sleep training that helped his naps. I just started reading Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and have the Ferber book to read next, but would love to hear your experience.
