Daycare policies about HF&M Disease?

I posted this morning on Toddlers about HF&M- pedi confirmed that DD has it- and I'm curious about daycare policies for returning. We definitely won't be there tomorrow, but curious about how long others had to stay home? The directors were in a meeting so I'm calling to check in tomorrow. I know I'll have to wait and see how the lesions are over the weekend, but do I have hope that DD can go back on Monday? Thank goodness I hadn't taken sick days over the past few months!

Re: Daycare policies about HF&M Disease?

  • My DD went back once the fever was gone. My Pedi and daycare both said that they aren't contagious past that point. It was around the time the blisters appeared, so she only missed 1 day.

  • Oh, yay! Thanks for giving me hope. I'll keep an eye out for fever (pedi said the same thing) and I'm also keeping an eye out for new lesions. Thanks, madhatter.

  • My son could go back after the fever was gone.  He had the red marks for about a month, but he wasn't contagious at that point.
  • DD had the fever over the weekend and the spots came on Tuesday (after Memorial weekend Monday) - the Pedi said she had to be out of daycare until the next Monday.  I hope your DC feels better soon, it wasn't much fun

  • Billy only missed one day - when he had a fever - before we knew what he had.  He went back to school the next day and then we noticed the blisters that night, took him to Ped in the am and she said once the blisters/sore are out it's no longer contagious- so she gave us a handout and we sent him to school.

  • DS just had it 2 weeks ago over Thanksgiving.  He could go back once the fever had been gone for 24 hrs. (general daycare policy on time after fevers).  However, he had horrible sores in his mouth.  We first took him home on Monday, and I would not have sent him back until the following Monday even if it had not been a holiday weeked -- he was still inconsolable at various points on Thursday and Friday.
