Vacation worry

Hi ladies

DH and I will be taking LO down the shore this summer with DH's family. We're very excited to have LO experience the beach for the first time. I have a major concern though. DH's parents are renting a shore house so the house will have about 8-10 people. Whenever we visit DH's parents LO NEVER naps, no matter what we do. Once we leave the house he passes out in the car before we are even out of the driveway. So as you can see I'm very worried about LO's napping/sleeping while on vacation. He takes two naps a day. I just don't know how we're going to get him to sleep with all the excitement of being in a new place? The last time we went away LO was 6 months and did well, but it was just us.

Any advice would be fantastic because I'm kinda freaking out. TIA!

Re: Vacation worry

  • We are literally going to be In the same situation this summer so I'm curious as to what others say.

  • Does LO nap well in carseat or stroller or baby carrier? When we visit family DS almost never naps but we will put him in the carseat and drive around or go shopping in order for him to nap a bit. Kind of a hassle to do that while on vacation but I think LO will eventually sleep when he's tired. Or when you know it's about his nap time and he seems tired then take a walk and stroll him around?
We are also traveling this summer but going overseas to a different time zone so I'm worried about the time difference and how it will affect him!

  • The last time I went to my parents' house, I brought along our video monitor so I could leave the room while he napped. Without it when he would nap I had to stay in the room, and unfortunately when he woke up he would see me and immediately want out of the PNP. With the monitor, I could watch him from elsewhere, and he figured out quickly that it was just like naptime at home (i.e. Mommy wasn't hanging out in the room to rescue him after a 20 minute power nap). His naps were more regular, he was much more rested, and it was a lifesaver! We also made good use of white noise by turning on the fan in the window AC. It was a tad louder than our normal fan, and it masked all the unfamiliar sounds really well.

  • I would try taking a nap together. That is how I get DD down for a nap when she is fighting it really hard. Travelling is a sleep ruiner for us!
