11 month old waking up at Midnight--HELP!

So DS has always been a good sleeper. Unless he was sick, he would only ever wake up once during the night and has STTN since he was 10 weeks old.

Well lately he has been waking up around 11:30 or Midnight screaming (and it is the screaming that says I am not going to self soothe myself back to sleep). Usually it is enough for us to go in and give him his nuk, but on Saturday night hew was inconsolable. Every time I put him down he would cry bloody murder. I finally had DH go in with him cause I had to use the bathroom and when I went in to check it was almost like DS was still crying in his sleep. It took DH 15 minutes to get him back to sleep (that is a really long time for us).

Once we do this he will usually sleep the rest of the night, but why is this happening now?

Anyone else going through this?

  • It could be teething, but it honestly sounds like he could be having nightmares. Elliot went through a phase where he was having nightmares and would wake up sobbing around the same time every night. We had no idea what was causing it, and it finally just stopped after about a week and a half. It was exhausting though.

  • Yep, it sounds like DD's nightmares that she gets occasionally.

  • it definitely could be teething... my LO is doing the same thing. he has been getting up once in the middle of the night and then once i check on him and get him back down again, he sleeps until 7.

today, for the first time in weeks, he STTN. i just stayed consistent with my quick, quiet check-ins (even if some of them took me an hour to get him back down again)...

i have learned that his sleeping patterns are changing constantly. when i think we are on the road of STTN, he pulls a fast one on me ;) I just go with the flow and stay consistent.

    it will pass!
