We are moving next month from our condo to a townhouse. Tons more space, but also a lot more worries. It is a three level home with the top level having a loft that over looks the living room. Plus there are tons of steps now to gate off. We are still renting so can't do any long term solutions. If you have suggestions for the following I would be very grateful!
1. Gates when there are spindles from the banister on one side (there is no way to do a gate a t the bottom of the stairs as the banister ends early)
2. A long gate for a 6foot opening
3. What to do with the loft opening. The slates are definitely too wide apart. Netting? Plastic?

There are lots of options here: https://www.onestepahead.com/home.jsp
Just because you are renting doesn't mean that you can't screw anything into the wall (a must for tops and bottoms of stairs). It would be a huge safety concern without it. If your landlord puts up a fuss, remind him that his insurance company would drop him in a heartbeat if this is what he told you. You will most likely be responsible for filling any holes and painting, but that's typical of anywhere you rent.
We bought this from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Regalo-Metal-Play-Yard-White/dp/B003VNKLIY/ref=pd_cp_ba_1 (can't do clicky on Mac)
We just opened it up and screwed it into the wall to cover a 14 ft opening and just kept DS1 confined to the downstairs.
