Pregnant after 35

Best maternity pants?

1st timer here and I am going to have to breakdown and buy some maternity pants. I need both some for work and play.

I have a tradeshow coming up and need 3 suits - plus my work is business dress so I pretty much live in dress clothes. Any suggestions on your favorite work pants?

 Jeans/capris? Any suggestions here?

I don't want to buy a bunch of maternity clothes, but need a few key pieces to go wwith what I have. Also hoping to check out a couple of maternity consignment shops. Would love you input! Smile

Re: Best maternity pants?

  • I am an attorney and have worn Motherhood pants through both pregnancies. They fit well and I love the panel they use. I don't have any suits. Fortunately, the judges where I practice are very forgiving of pregnant women. I do lots of cardigans and accessorize to dress up. Depending on your size, there are some high end maternity business things, but they run small and are quite expensive.

  • For work, I have gone completely to dresses.  They are most comfortable, as they do not constrict the waistline.  You can wear a nice dress with a cardigan or even blazer, if necessary.

In terms of casual clothes, I bought a pair of jean capris from Old Navy and absolutely hate them and refuse to wear them.  I am still wearing my pre-pregnancy jeans with a hair tie through the button hole.  I know I will have to break down soon, though.

  • For play I am wearing comfy knit capris. I haven't had to give up my normal dress slacks yet for work but have started getting tops that are loose around the middle.
  • Until I was taken out of work, I loved the Motherhood brand pants. I bought my jeans and work pants there. I prefer the full belly panel, I think they are the secret fit. I felt like the under belly ones were going to slide off. I also just recently bought some capris at Kohls. I love them. Also I agree with one of the previous posts that said they have gone to dresses. I did get a few dresses as well which were very nice and inexpensive at Target. Good Luck.
  • I hate almost all Maternity pants.  What I have found is the Black wide waistband Mossimo Yoga pants at target.  They have that superwide waistband that you can fold over or not.  I live in them.

Since they are black I can pair them with a nice top and no one is the wiser that they are comfy yoga pants.

    :)

  • For work I also like Motherhood for work pants and GAP for jeans/capris.  I can still wear my regular blazers so I'm not planning on getting new ones.  If you are adventorous and are OK with online only, Ann Taylor Loft has maternity clothes online.  So far they fit like their regular clothes (if you have worn their stuff before you will want to order the same sizes in maternity, if not, go true to size). They usually run a lot of "flash" sales if you sign up for their email newsletters. I too have gone to dresses as well, especially since I'm in the south and it's getting warmer.  You could also try Pink Blush Maternity (online) for casual dress and work dresses.

  • I love these black work pants from Motherhood:

They are pricey but I bought 2 pairs and washed clothes a lot.  They are super soft and comfortable.  I wore black pants to work every day and alternated various work shirts that I found at consignment stores.  I have one pair of jeans from Kohl's.  I liked the way Old Navy maternity jeans fit, but already had the pair from Kohl's and didn't want to buy anymore jeans (due in the summer).

The consignment shops helped a lot!  I got a lot of nice clothes for a fraction of the cost.  I wish I had more summer casual stuff but I certainly have enough to get me through the rest of the pregnancy.  I teach at a community college so I'm off work for the summer and don't need a lot of clothes anyway.

  • That belly band thing has been a LIFESAVER.

No pants will stay up without it on my belly. However, I live in this non-maternity pair of plus size yoga pants from Old Navy when I am not at work.

I liked the Liz Lang pants I got at Target but they too would not stay up without the belly band.
