Re: hospital bag
Oh and I packed slippers too
Other things for labor: Bathing suit in case you want to go in a tub or shower, shower cap to keep hair dry, music or pictures or other things to help you relax, Chapstick, birthing ball, water bottle, snacks.
Post partum: Lanolin. My hospital couldn't give me anything for some reason and I was there for four days due to the unplanned c/s. My poor nips. Phone charger, camera and charger.
I also packed flip flops (for shower), a robe, prenatal vitamins, a phone charger, and playing cards.
I packed a separate bag for LO, but I'm wondering if its really too much. I have 3-4 outfits, including one to come home in, one for the photo and a sleeper, 2 swaddlers, small bag of toiletries (comb, aspirator, nail clippers), pacifiers, and my travel boppy for nursing.
Do I need to eliminate anything?
we clean poop and anything else up with them and then they go and get washed then come back to every area in the hospital. I know they get cleaned but still. Also they are normally like bath mat size not big enough to dry your body with
It's a little much! You don't need outfits, per se. Just one to bring baby home in; if you want a separate one for a photos, okay. But baby will not be wearing 'outfits' in the hospital, he will be wearing the kimono shirt that the hospital provides and a diaper.
You don't need Swaddlers for baby. They will swaddle him in hospital blankets. You don't need a toiletry kit. Clippers are not to be used for a couple months; the nails are too soft and thin and will still be fused to the skin, using a clipper risks cutting the skin. File only. The nurses will take care of washing baby if you choose to let baby have a bath and everything they need is provided. Aspirator and pacifiers are also provided, and if you're planning to BF, don't give a paci for a couple weeks anyway.
Basically, all you need for baby is something to take him home in, and even that isn't necessary, because you can take the kimono shirt, too. When we left the hospital, the nurse said, "anything in the crib that you want, you can have." We took blankets, burp cloths, the shirt, a paci, two hats, the aspirator. There was formula and bottles, too, but we didn't want that.
I just added towel to my packing list.
yup! me too! ugh!!
Same here. They gave me socks last time in the most awful shade of yellow. I'm bringing pretty non skid socks to gaze at while birthing this time. Vanity, FTW.
Just a few follow up notes from my experience - I had a c/s unexpectedly so my LO and I were in the hospital 4 days after delivery and after the first day I was changing her into clothes instead of using the hospital kimono. If you don't want to pack extra clothes, just set aside an extra pile of clothes so your DH can run home and grab them if you end up needing them if you do have a c/s.
Also, I wouldn't use my own robe during labor - they just put another hospital gown on you backwards to cover your toosh while you are walking the hallways.
Are you doing cord blood donation? I got a postcard with my packet of information I am supposed to give the nurse when I get to the hospital so that's going in my bag too.
Sorry if I could have worded this better
It's funny how the hospitals are different. At my hospital I was keeping her in the kimonos and the second day they kind of insinuated to me that I SHOULD change her into different clothes. Plus they kept calling her "he" even with the bow on her head, so I was okay with switching her to pink.
I would recommend a zip up hoody and possibly warmer clothes for DH. We both found our hospital to be very cool and had to run home to get us some warmer gear.
