This Baby Will. Not Sleep.
He does ok at night (thank you sweet baby Jesus), meaning he will sleep in 2 - 3 hour stretches between 10 - 11PM and 7AM, but the rest of the time? No dice. He wakes up within 5 - 10 minutes of us putting him down just about every time.
Take today, for instance. I was able to get him to nap from 8AM to 9:30AM, then he only took another nap from about 4:15PM to 5PM. And I just now put him back to bed for the night... for the 3 rd time.
Note he doesn't wake up right away when I put him down, so it's not like he has some Moro reflex going on (he's swaddled anyways) or that his bed is too cold. I mean, I lay him there and he will look like he's in a deep sleep. Then 5 minutes later, full on screaming. WTF!?
I already had a child who wouldn't sleep (DD1) and the thought of this Baby being the same is literally making me cry.
DH isn't much help, as he keeps saying "Don't worry, I'll help" - which means he'll just hold him while he plays on the computer. Sure Baby Boy will sleep then, but then DH can't do a single thing (oh hey did I mention we are moving?) and also WTF am I supposed to do when it's just me and baby all day?
Gahhhhh!
Re: At my wits' end
I could have written this post about DS -- including the moving part. I'd spend all day trying to get him to nap so that I could pack boxes.
I think I finally gave up and would just put him in the RnP to hang out when I needed to get stuff done - I just stopped worrying about the sleep as much because I HAD to pack. I don't remember when or how, but he eventually moved out of that phase and napped a little better. It's all such a blur to me now.
You'll survive. You'll get your stuff packed and moved into your new place. It will be okay.
This. Hank... heaven in a swaddle. Otis? OMG crazy red faced struggling to break free baby.
Also, Hank hated the swing but loved the vibrating bouncy. Otis hated the bouncy but loved the swing. I went through a ton of batteries and baby gear.
Good luck. I know it's rough. Here's hoping is really short lived.
If it makes you feel better, we're not getting night sleep over here. Otis has been waking up SCREAMING at least twice per night. Last night it was three times. Then, he takes forever to fall back to sleep.
He's just a light sleeper and couldn't sleep laying flat.
I really hope you find something that works for you and your little man soon!
Thank you ladies.
I am not even sure WHY I wrote this, aside from venting. I mean, if Baby Boy isn't much of a sleeper, then I guess that's that. I just wish we didn't spend so much time playing the "Will Baby actually sleep" game. *sigh*
He took a 45 minute nap over lunch (yay) then woke up and was still still hysterical after I nursed him (boo) so I said "screw this" and took him to the paint store to look at samples. He fell asleep at the paint store. He's still asleep now (thank goodness for portable infant car seats!) and I'm probably jinxing myself by even mentioning the fact he is actually sleeping but at least I got some peace and quiet.
