Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Britax Advocate 70-G3 Convertible Car Seat Owners

I recently bought this carseat and I've tried to install it..rear facing.

When I tried to put my babe in it, her legs didn't have enough space to straighten. Am I doing something wrong?

Technically, her weight is enough for her to be forward facing, but I prefer to have her rear faced til she's two.... Tho, I can't have her sit like frog legs

  • She'll learn how to bend her legs & cross them.... Kids in those seats often RF until after 2 with out issues.

  • There's no safety concern with bent legs. Definitely not a reason to turn her around. My DD RF until right before she was 3. She crossed her legs, hung them over the side, put them up the back of the seat. Best practice has kids RF until 4y old and you can bet they cross their legs!

  • As pp have said, she will adapt. There is not going to be any RF car seat, that I know of, that will allow a toddler to stretch their legs out. I hear the argument all the time that it is uncomfortable for them....no, it's not. They don't know any different.

DS is 19 months and sits in the Britax Advocate RF with his legs bent. It doesn't bother him.

  • Really? She looks very comfortable. Her back is not straight and her legs are bent in a way she kicks and screams a bit.

I think the seat was installed wrong? For now, she's back in her infant car seat, where she's much happier. (and no I did not stuff her in her seat. She still has 12pounds to go in their weight max.)

  • The Britax seats seem to leave very little leg room while rear facing, but you'll run into this problem no matter what seat it is. She will learn to sit with her legs crossed. It's fine to leave her in the infant seat as you're doing until she reaches either the height or weight limit.

  • We have 2 Advocates with a 15 month old in the 97% for height/50% for weight.  She wears 18 month to 24 month jeans--super long legs!  She bends her legs slightly, but who cares?  She is 5x safer rear-facing, and my perception of how uncomfortable I would be if I had to sit with my legs bent is not going to make me flip her earlier.  That said, she s

As my husband says, our daughter chews her own toenails, she falls asleep with her face on her knees, etc.  These kiddos are so very flexible and don't mind positions that may be uncomfortable to us parents.

Just keep an eye on the height limit too. Some seats have overall height limits and you always need at least an inch of shell above their head, regardless of overall height.
