So, my husband fiiiinally had his evaluation this morning. Which is required before any act of termination. According to Iowa code, an administrator can have his contract withheld as long as he is notified by the 15th. At the evaluation he was told that he had to submit his letter or resignation before the board meeting tonight or they would likely proceed with termination/withhold his contract.
I took the kids to the meeting tonight. The HS only has a staff of 29, and 18 teachers, came to support my husband. 15 of them spoke, and several of them presented letters from staff that were unable to attend the meeting. The board then went into closed session.
After an hour, they opened it back up and they voted 3:1 to accept dh's letter of resignation. We are so, so disappointed, but humbled at the support that the staff has shown him. After the meeting, one teacher stood up and told the board that he hoped they were all able to sleep tonight. The support and the love and the tears from those people are something that I hope will bring comfort to my husband. I am so defeated, and sad that my kids will not have the chance to grow in this district. They really do have a fantastic staff.
I considered not updating tonight because I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but I had several bumpies messaging me, so maybe some of you care what happens??
Keep us in your prayers please as we decide where to go from here. I know this is only temporary, and I have faith that God has better things in the future for my family, even if I'm not aware of what those things are.
Love to you all!
Re: Update- tl;dr probably
We haven't received any "real" reasons. They said that there was a complaint that he didn't support the staff (which I think should have been discredited by the amount of staff there supporting HIM tonight!). And there was a complaint that he didn't expel enough students. Seriously. The board president pointed out that the principal last year expelled 9 students while my dh only expelled one. She said that there were too many "frequent fliers" in his office and that she doesn't have much tolerance for that.
DH called and told me that the board said absolutely nothing about the staff showing up tonight, and that it didn't even make a dent..
Sounds like they had their minds made up way ahead of time. So unfair!
I am so glad you updated us! I have been thinking about you and your family. I am so sorry to read this. It sounds like you had a wonderful group of support around you and your DH - that had to mean a lot...
Things like this I can't understand but I hope as your DH and your family move forward you can find peace in it all and something even more wonderful opens up for you.
Huge hugs.

I really hope this means that this road is going to lead you to something better for all of you! Please please keep us updated.
And if you ever need anything, even just an Internet hug please don't hesitate to ask!
Its truly in god's hands.
That was incredible that so many from the school showed their support.
I am so sorry. This really makes me depressed about the state our schools are in if the ones in charge actually WANT kids to get kicked out of school. geez.
I hope you can both find some healing. I'm glad there was such a show of support.
Ugh, I hate this, CF!!! I wish there was something I could say or do to make it all better for you guys. I think it is amazing that so many people came out to support DH and to speak for him!!
I will say a prayer for your family. I'm sure there is a silver lining out there and a blessing just waiting to come from this mess.
Until then, all our love and support, doll.
Proud Mama to cleft cutie
That is disgusting. They should be ashamed of themselves. I am so, so sorry that your poor husband had to deal with those asinine fuckwaffles.
That is so utterly defeating. I am so sorry to hear it CF. Take the time that you need as a family to proceed. I still think it is so utterly wrong, but who am I to have an opinion? I am so happy though that so many of the staff came to speak at the hearing. That was truly kind of them.
It's just so sad that they prefer a principal who will give up on his students. It sounds fishy to me like they had some other reason like they want to change the curriculum or the staff over. Either way, I'm so sorry you are dealing with this.
After the meeting, dh had to go to a band/vocal concert last night, and when he got home he gave me a rundown on what was said during closed session. He said that they went around the table and the first board member said that he believed that they should offer dh another contract. Then the rest of them said, "We aren't questioning your integrity or you ability to do your job. It is obvious that you have the support of the staff, and it isn't easy, but we just feel that you aren't the best fit." DH said that the superintendent suggested that they offer him another contract as well, and said that this process had been top-heavy and unfair.
What a load. Dh's previous supt called him yesterday offering support also. It was just so out of left field! He did call the appropriate lawyer yesterday, and was told that what they were doing was legal, since he was probationary for the first two contract years. Whew. We'll get through it though.
