Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Water

After 4 months of experimenting with cups LO has finally figured out how to drink from a sippy.  She figured out the straw kind.  We usually put an ounce or so in a cup at meal times.  Our older LO drinks water most of the day and tends to leave his cup laying around. LO #2 picks it up any chance she gets and goes to town.  I know that water early on isn't a great idea, but is there an amount that's "too much" at 10 months?

Re: Water

  • As long as DD is taking in her average amount of formula, I don't limit how much water she has anymore. She has access to water all day in her sippy.

  • Is there something wrong with giving them water? I missed that... Little man gets water in his sippy with his table meals...

We don't limit the water DS gets. We offer his cup throughout the day and at meal times. And we always have it with us when we leave the house. He nurses a ton still and eats alot of food so I don't see the harm. It probably only ends up being a few ounces a day of water that he drinks.
  • You have to limit water when they are under 6 months so that the salt level in theri blood doesn't become diluted to the point it can cause a siezure, but after that a sippy cup or two will be fine.

DS has access to it all day, some days he wants more than others, and he mostly wants it at meal time.

  • Thanks! LO is a chunky monkey and still takes 28 oz of formula a day plus 3 meals of solids, so the water isn't impeding that.
