Seperation Anxiety

I swear DD has had seperation anxiety since she was born but lately it has gotten worse, I know its the age but wanted to check in with you moms, especially the moms with older lo's. What do you consider normal, what can I do to help her, when do I call her doctors? I don't want to over-react but also don't want to under-react, hope that makes sense.

Example: yesterday she wanted to go outside on our front porch but I needed to make dinner, my mom - who babysits her offered to take her out - she wouldn't go without me. I then ended up opening both the front screen door and the regular door so she could come in and out to check on me as I made dinner at the kitchen table so she could see me from the doorway.

Thanks!

Re: Seperation Anxiety

  • We are in the same boat and I don't have any advice, just commiseration.

  • Yep. It's the age. I can't take the trash outside or go to the bathroom alone without DD getting upset.

  • DD2 has definitely been more clingy (or is it clingy-er?) the past few months. For a while, she would even cry when I'd drop her off at daycare. It has gotten better, but she still hates it when I leave.
