2nd Trimester

Scary thing happened last night

I have 2 big dogs and I have been very careful about not letting them jump on me, or play too rough with them, since being pregnant.  Last night I let both of the dogs outside to go potty, and called for them a few minutes later, the Lab came running right up, but our Pit didn't.  So I leaned out the sliding glass door and called out her name a few times, and the Lab was all excited thinking I was going to come outside and play, and she jumped up on me with her arms on my belly.

It didn't really "hurt" per se, but just the thought of it hurting the baby, freaked me the eff out.  I was ok for about a minute, went and told DH what had happened, and he was like "are you ok" and I just started bawling... logically I know that the baby is in there and she's fine, but just the *thought* of losing her right now, terrified me, and I cried like crazy for about 10 minutes.

We've already named her, planned a shower for her, have the nursery decorated, sent out Christmas cards about us being pregnant, etc... I feel like she's alreday "here" in so may ways.

I can't even imagine how devastating it is to those people that have to suffer through losses, especially late losses... I really can't imagine.  My heart goes out to those people.  My SIL lost twins very late in her pregnancy years ago, and I can't even imagine the pain that she went through.  I really don't think that I would be strong enough to handle it.  Her and her DH divorced a few years later, and I really think if they hadn't lost those babies they would still be married.  So scary and sad.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling... and be careful with your big dogs, I would hate for anyone else to freak out like I did last night.

Every movement that I feel today makes me want to jump for joy, I have been sitting here holding my belly all day today.

  • Aww.  Im sorry you were upset.  It is scary when the dog jumps on your belly.  My dog (granted he is only 25 lbs) loves to step on my belly when I al laying down.  I get scared each time.  The baby is so protected in there.  Everything will be fine.

  • My pit is 70 pounds, and the lab is 85 pounds.  And they are both VERY friendly and like to love on me.

  • My lab jumped on me when I was about 8 months pregnant with my first DD.  It really hurt and I layed down for the rest of the night.  I totally understand your fears about losing the baby.  I think it's just part of our nature, but try not to freak out too much.
  • I'm sorry. I keep having these visions in my head of losing my little one (for whatever reason), and I cry just thinking of it. I know the emotions you must've felt last night.

  • I get really worried about my dog after the baby is born. I'm petrified that she will jump or make me drop the baby or something.  She's not too big of a jumper, but sometimes she gets overly excited.  She's a yellow lab and almost a year old.
  • Sorry you had to deal with that situation. I worry about that too with our big dog. ETA: a 90 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback

My dog tried to jump on me last night and as I backed away, his nails put two red scratches all the way down my belly. I showed DH and he was the one that freaked out! He barely touched me so I wasn't too worried but DH saw the scratches and thought for sure the baby was hurt. I've felt her moving around today and I know she's fine because he didn't really put any pressure on my belly.
  • I don't have any dogs (or pets for that matter), but I feel your anxiety about having a late loss. Mine is extra strong right now because my 16 week appointment is coming up and I just want the reassurance of hearing the hb again - even though I have plenty of other reasons to believe things are going quite well.

  • your dogs sound like mine. i have a lab that weighs about the same and a rotty that weighs about 110. they are so friendly and loveable that they feel like the constantly have to be sitting on my lap.

i've been worried about the same thing a couple of times when they've jumped on me. i'm sure everything is okay!

  • My labs weigh in at about 100 lbs each.. I worry about them jumping up on me when I'm not on guard..  They just get so wiggly and excited - especially when I come home from work..  My yellow bounces around like a gigantic bunny rabbit and my chocolate is known for rearing up on his hind legs, wanting kiss my face (yes, he's big enough and I'm short enough for him to do so)..  Should break them of those habits now!
