Pregnant after a Loss

Beta #3 and a question

(last Tuesday)15 DPO- HCG-95 progesterone-25

(last Thurs)17 DPO- HCG-187 progesterone-43

(last Fri)18 DPO-HCG-260 progesterone-38

I asked the nurse at my RE about my progesterone going down and if it was an indication that something was wrong and she said "no, it is usual for progesterone levels to fluctuate." My progesterone only dropped by five points so she said it was ok.

I had blood drawn again today and my RE wants to do labs again Wed and Fri so three times this week. Did anyone else experience this? Just wondering why so many blood draws? I know people get two or three betas done but I am having at least six. I plan to ask my nurse tomorrow when I get the results from today. I didn't think of it when I was on the phone with her. TIA ladies!

Re: Beta #3 and a question

  • I just had two, 48 hours apart and as long as they were doubling, they didn't want any more of my blood. Some doctors like to do 3 or 4 though. It's weird that they didn't wait 2 days on the last one. They seem to be going up appropriately though! I hope your next numbers come back good too!

  • Thanks Boots! I thought it was weird that they did it only 24 hours for the third beta as well. I asked them," Don't you want me to wait until Mon for the third?" and they said "no, they wanted one Fri AND Mon." And now today they told me they want one on Wed and Fri of this week! They are starting to make me paronoid that something is wrong- even though my numbers look good (or so I think)!!!!

I agree, your progesterone is great and it will fluctuate.

I am also surprised they did a beta only 24 hrs apart from the 2nd.

Not sure why they are doing more betas, i only did 2 then an ultrasound 6.5 weeks.

GL with the other betas! Just make sure they do it 23 days apart so they have more meaning. Your 2nd and 3rd betas look like they are trending well but it's not common practice to do so close.

Yeah and the weird thing is that they haven't even mentioned scheduling an u/s. Just more and more bloodwork. They haven't even asked what DPO I am or when my last period was. I find all this weird and not the norm as it seems on this board where everyone has two or three betas. I guess it is good that they are checking so much- it kind of keeps me sane and keeps my need to pee on things at bay since I get numbers every other day- lol! But it still worries me that they are not satisfied enough with my numbers and I have to do two more betas!

I did 6 betas. The first 4 my OB wanted and the last 2 I requested because I was having sch bleeding and needed reassurance while I waited for my first ultrasound.
