Preschool transition of services?

A quick question for those of your with Autism kiddos.  My son just started preschool.  He is going to a full day, five day, full year program.  They have ABA imbedded, but also 1:1 discrete trial ABA.  Since he is getting it in school, I was hoping to cut down hours outside of school, but not sure if I should yet or by how much.  Any thoughts, wisdom, or advice?

I wouldn't do that just yet - see how he does and if he improves, then think about it.

For us, I tripled the amount of OT my kid gets at school.  He gets 20 mins a week, and I do 2 additional private sessions outside of school.  The thing is school is worried about school, how kids can access their classroom and how it impacts their education.  They are not as concerned about life skills.  So for example - I mentioned to the school OT during an IEP meeting that DS was still having trouble putting on his own shoes and could we address that.  To which the OT turned to the teacher and said "do you take off the kids shoes a lot in class?".  In other words, she wasn't interested in addressing it if it wasn't affecting his ability to participate in class.  where as, she is interested in making sure he has a good pencil grasp.

So, if there are things outside of the classroom that your child needs to work on, you'd do that in private therapy generally.  Of course, this is just my experience, others may have a different one.

    GL!
