Trouble TTC

Totally Overwhelmed New Girl in Town - Intro (Stepson Mentioned)

Hi ladies! I feel like it?s time I come out of lurking and introduce myself.

I?m Beth, I?m just shy of 32 and my husband and I have been TTC since February of 2012. After a year of trying, we did some preliminary testing with my OB ? CD3, CD21, HSG, and SA all came back normal. When she suggested I try a few months of unmonitored Clomid I ditched her and found an RE.

I had my first appointment on Friday and things went well. After reviewing my charts she has diagnosed me with unexplained infertility and suggested with start with 50MG Clomid, Ovidrel trigger, and IUI. Since it is my first medicated cycle, I think we are going to do TI instead of the IUI and see what happens (your expertise would be really welcome on this subject Smile). I am still trying to process everything and am feeling totall overwhelmed but am glad we have a plan and are moving forward.

A little about me ? Hubs and I will celebrate our 3rd anniversary this year. I have a 9 year old stepson who I adore and am so thankful to have a great relationship with. I love wine, doing anything creative (painting, jewelry making, photography), and hanging with my hubs, friends and family. I can bake some mean cupcakes but can't cook to save my life and have been trying to learn.

I?m looking forward to getting to know the members of this community, learning from the knowledge of those who have been through this, and providing support. As much as IF sucks and I don?t want to see anyone going through it, I?m thankful there is a group of others who are on the same journey.

  • Hi Beth and welcome! sorry you have to be here.

I did clomid+trigger+TI for my first 3 cycles with my RE (currently in the 2WW of cycle 3 right now).

I am not an expert, but is there a specific reason they wanted you to jump right to IUI? I feel like normally they would try the least expensive/least invasive first which would be clomid+trigger+TI, then injectibles and then IUI...at least that was the order my RE came up with.

good luck in this process and good for you for being an advocate for yourself!!

I think there is a great deal more data/literature about success with medicated cycles and IUI for unexplained infertility than meds+TI or unmedicated IUIs.

That being said, we did 3 rounds of Femara + TI before we could get injects and IUI covered by our insurance.

Her response was that it improves the odds when you get them all pretty much where they need to go. There is no MF issue - she said his counts looked great. I'm leaning towards TI since it's my first medicated cycle at all and who knows how I will even respond to it.

Fingers crossed for you that this TWW is your last!

  • Welcome, I'm sorry you have to be here.

We did our first round of treatment with my OB/GYN and decided to go with Clomid +IUI instead of Clomid +TI.  I felt like if I was going to pay for monitored clomid, I might as well through in an IUI too.  My OB/GYN originally recommended clomid + TI, but gave us the choice of adding IUI.

My RE recommended Clomid + Trigger + IUI.  He wanted to monitor a few cycles before starting treatment and we actually did an unmedicated IUI last cycle because our post coital test came back bad.  This cycle was our first official treatment cycle and we did Clomid + Trigger + IUI.

    GL!

    Welcome and lots of luck!

We're on our first medicated cycle and are doing clomid, trigger and IUI. Some PP mentioned the same reasons that went through our heads - why invest in a medicated cycle and leave the TI vs. IUI up to chance? I'd rather take the guess work out.

  • Welcome! I am so sorry you have to be here but I hope you find comfort in the fact that you are not alone! I did Femara+Trigger+IUI last cycle and got a BFN, this cycle we are doing Femara+Trigger+TI to see how it goes. I haven't heard a whole lot of success stories with TI but if your DH didn't have a problem with his SA then I think it's a hopeful option for you. GL and welcome!!
