Gigantic bouquet of red roses

3. Was it for an occasion or just because? My 23rd birthday.

DH and I were dating, and at the time I was living in Detroit while he was in France for several months. He had it delivered as a surprise. I felt so special! My birthday is in January, so it was pretty cool in the house and even after the rose petals started falling off, they continued to smell nice for weeks, so I scattered them around my bedroom and sitting room (I was living in an attic apartment in a church rectory - long story).

1. What's the best gift you've ever received? I think in adolescence my favorite gift was my kitchen set. I played with that thing for hours and was SO excited to get it!! In adulthood, I think it was probably the flowers I got.

2. Who was it from? From DH

3. Was it for an occasion or just because? For VDay. They were my favorite flower-stargazre lilies and the card read "my love for you grows stronger every day. Love, DH" I love it because he put thought into it and didn't just buy what was "on the shelf".

4. Anything else fun you want to tell the TTTCAL community! Just how much I appreciate all of you!! It's been a rough day and you all brighten my mood a little. Smile

It was fun! :-) Long story short, I volunteered with an urban farm and kids art program in Detroit for a year after undergrad. It was part of the Capuchin Franciscan Friar's volunteer program in Milwaukee, Chicago, and Detroit, but in my year, I was the only person to volunteer for Detroit, so they weren't quite sure where to put me, since it wasn't felt to be safe to have me live completely by myself. Priests aren't really supposed to live with women, but the rectory where three of the friars lived was a huge old house, so they got around that by fixing up the attic as a semi-separate living area. Lots of parishioners donated furniture and stuff, so I had the most palatial volunteer quarters ever.

1. What's the best gift you've ever received? I am having a hard time thinking about gifts that I've loved. I really prefer hand-made things like meaningful CDs (and those don't seem to happen anymore). I know this is a cop out, but I have to say my engagement ring. It's amazing, and gorgeous, and he paid attention to my personal jewelry peculiarities while picking it out.

3. Was it for an occasion or just because? For the occasion of getting married.

You know, I thought about putting my engagement ring too. My DH picked it out all by himself, too, and remembered everything I had ever mentioned about it I think!

1. What's the best gift you've ever received? A Coach bag for a Christmas present one year. I was totally shocked and surprised.

2. Who was it from? DH gave me a bunch of other gifts first and I thought we are done then he pulled out this huge red box. It was so exciting.

Ready? Set! Go! On our little road trip, hubby and I decided to go to the casino. Not a real gambler, but this time DH insisted so he played the craps tables and sure enough, he won enough to pay for the trip and then some. Nothing sweeter than good times with DH...and on the house to boot! Yes

I really miss my best friend. She lives in San Diego with her hubby and family and he's in the Navy. They are moving to Hawaii in two weeks. Makes me sad that it'll be harder to go visit.

A t-shirt quilt made out of all of my father's t-shirts

3. Was it for an occasion or just because?

It was a Christmas present, but it was in remembrance of my father who has now been gone 13 1/2 years. She made my brother and I both the quilts for the second Christmas after he had passed. Whenever I'm feeling sad or lonely I wrap myself up in it and think of his hugs.

I went on a wonderful walk with my dog today and he just seemed to be having the best time! It makes me so happy to know how the simplest things really make that little pup's day!

Best gift was when I was about 12. I was at the barn and my instructor had a new horse for me to ride. When I was finished riding I put her back in her stall and looked at the small chalk board on the stall that usually says the horses name. It said. "Judy Heather's horse".
My dad got me the horse as a surprise for Christmas/ bday. Bday was in feb. I got her in January.

I had no idea. I did not even remember riding Judy in November at a horse show at 2 in the morning.

Now Judy is 27 retired hanging out in my backyard. She finally came to live with me after all these years. I never had room at my house.
My dad passed away 1.12.04. He loved the horses. She finally came home on 1.14.12. Was a very emotional day. I know he would be happy for me to have her home.

I will never forget when I got her.

4. Something else fun. When I started riding horses I was scared to death of them. So scared to ride.

3. Was it for an occasion or just because? Our 3rd anniversary

4. Anything else fun you want to tell the TTTCAL community! More so than the gift itself (don't get me wrong, it's beautiful) is the reasoning behind it. 2010 was an incredibly tough year for MH and I. Lots of loss and challenges. MH got me a 2nd band to wear on top of my wedding set, and wrote in the card "I know this year hasn't been easy, but we're stronger because of everything we've been through. And I know now, more than ever, I would marry you all over." I was crying into my dessert at dinner!

3. Was it for an occasion or just because? It was technically a Christmas present, but we were going through a really rough patch and he surprised me with it about a week before Christmas.

4. Anything else fun you want to tell the TTTCAL community! Is it bad that I giggled a little at my poor dog when she was trying to walk through the doorway with a big e-collar on? Poor girl.

1. A first edition of my favorite book, The Sun Also Rises.

3. Our 5th wedding anniversary (last September)
4. It was really special because of the thought and effort he put into it. He isn't a reader, so we never even talk about books (except when he's complaining that I have too many!) He went out of his way to ask my BFF about my favorite book and do a ton of research into first editions.

My literary soulmate! MH isn't much of a fiction reader either (he will do biographies from time to time), but he indulges my literary passions and lets me drag him to author landmarks all over when we go on vacation. We went to Hemingway's house in Key West and it was AMAZING.
