Haircut for girls?

So, I'm trying to decide if I should trim DD's hair, or just let it grow out. At the moment she kinda resembles a blond Orphan Annie with all those crazy curls. Her bangs are in her eyes 85% of the time

Mommies with girls, did you trim your DD's hair? Or is it easier to just clip it up and let it grow out?

Re: Haircut for girls?

  • As far as trim goes, when she's two I will trim her length. That's it, her bangs are pretty much grown out. My goal is letting it grow naturally with trimming just to keep it healthy.

  • Ps, she's a doll.
  • DD has crazy curls, we are growing it out so that hopefully the weight will pull it down and not out. Anyone have any tips for crazy curls?

I have curly hair, but I think DD's is even curlier than mine! It was only ever a big mess in middle/high school when I was figuring it all out. What I've been doing to mine is after washing it I put a detangler or serum in it to keep it from frizzing and combing it out while it's still wet. From there I let it air dry and try not to mess with it too much.

DD takes her baths at night and so she sleeps on it and messes it all up, so in the morning I re-spritz the detangler and comb out the matted parts. I really can't wait til I can style her hair a little nicer; braids, ponies, etc.

  • DD2's hair is always in her face but she has finally learned to swipe it to the side on her own.  I clip it but she takes the clips out almost every time.  She's only ever had the veeeeeery tips of her hair trimmed, for the sake of keeping it healthy, but I want it to grow out so we can legitimately pull it back into a 'tail.  We're so close!

  • I do DD's bangs myself. Her pic is in my siggy. I do it after a bath. Put on a cartoon that I know will keep her still and one straight snip across.
She didn't keep clips in her hair so I had no real choice.

  • I'd probably just clip it and let it grow, if she'll let you do that.  We're not planning on cutting DD's hair anytime soon, although hers is resembling a mullet right now.

  • I trimmed her mullet a few mos ago to give the sides a chance to grow in.  Last week I finally trimmed her bangs because they grow in so much more slowly than the rest of her hair and they were bothering her in her eyes.  I'd be tempted to leave your dds since its curly and all about the same length.

Eta: my kid's hair is also SO thin, so it doesn't clip to the side and looks really dumb any way but down or in pig tails.   I'm so jealous of all these toddlers with real hair.

  • I made the mistake of giving DD1 bangs when she was about 18 months. Took nearly 2 years to grow them out.

DD2 is not getting bangs. I put her hair up pretty much the same way as Lala's DD2 or I use clip and barrettes to keep it out of her face. She will most likely get her first haircut whenever Baby Boy gets his (so in a year or so, I guess?)

I am letting her hair grow. Her bangs are long enough to go behind her ear, but mostly we clip them back.

I'm letting DD's hair grow out because I don't want her to have bangs.  Right now I pull her hair back with little rubber bands.
